‘I Learned More Than I Ever Expected’ says Writer David Koepp on his upcoming movie Black Bag and research on Intelligence Operatives

Mumbai, 17th March 2025: Universal Pictures (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) is proud to announce the release of Black Bag on 28th March 2025. Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag is a gripping drama thriller starring Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Marisa Gabrielle Abela, Golden Globe Nominee Pierce Brosnan, Tom Burke, Academy Award Nominee Naomie Harris and Regé-Jean Page from Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton. The film received widespread acclaim with the plot being hailed as “a crackling thriller”, and “sensuously icy spy”.
An Espionage Drama, Black Bag follows the story of legendary intelligence agent George Woodhouse (played by Michael Fassbender) as he faces a heartbreaking dilemma- his wife Kathryn (played by Cate Blanchett) is suspected of betraying the nation. As the tension intensifies, George is forced to choose between loyalty to his country and the love of his life.
Discussing his collaboration with writer David Koepp, Academy Award winner Director Steven Soderbergh shares, “David is obviously very good at his job and I think he generally likes my directing” he further adds “Knowing that, we’re comfortable being honestly critical with each other. Neither of us feels any need to obfuscate.”
Talking about how the concept for Black Bag first occurred to him when doing research for the first chapter of the blockbuster Mission: Impossible franchise, writer David Koepp shares, “All the spycraft stuff was very cool, but I learned more than I ever expected about the people.”
