“‘வதந்தி 2’ வெறும் மர்மத் தொடரல்ல… எதிர்பார்ப்புக்கு பதில் சொல்லும் புதிய விசாரணை உலகம்!” – சசிகுமார், ஆண்ட்ரூ லூயிஸ், புஷ்கர்-காயத்ரி நம்பிக்கை

 

பிரைம் வீடியோவில் ஆகஸ்ட் 7 முதல் வெளியாகவுள்ள ‘வதந்தி சீசன் 2: தி மிஸ்டரி ஆஃப் மணி’ இணையத் தொடரை முன்னிட்டு, சென்னை நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டலில் நடைபெற்ற பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பு, வழக்கமான புரமோஷன் நிகழ்வாக இல்லாமல், இந்தத் தொடரின் பின்னணியில் இருந்த உழைப்பு, எதிர்பார்ப்பு, படைப்பாளிகளின் அர்ப்பணிப்பு ஆகியவற்றை வெளிப்படுத்திய ஒரு அனுபவமாக அமைந்தது.

வால்வாட்சர் பிலிம்ஸ் நிறுவனம் சார்பில் புஷ்கர் – காயத்ரி தயாரிப்பில், ஆண்ட்ரூ லூயிஸ் இயக்கத்தில் உருவாகியுள்ள இந்த தொடரில் நடிகர் சசிகுமார் முதன்முறையாக காவல்துறை அதிகாரி மூஸா ராசா என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்துள்ளார். அவருடன் அபர்ணா தாஸ், அனகா மருதோரா, விவேக் பிரசன்னா, யஷ்வந்த், ரேவதி சர்மா, அர்ஜுன் நந்தகுமார் உள்ளிட்ட பலர் நடித்துள்ளனர். இசையை சிமோன் கே. கிங் அமைத்துள்ளார்.

இந்த நிகழ்வில் பேசிய தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் புஷ்கர் – காயத்ரி, “வதந்தி முதல் சீசன் உருவாகிக் கொண்டிருந்த போதே, இரண்டாவது சீசனுக்கான கருவை ஆண்ட்ரூ லூயிஸ் மனதில் வைத்திருந்தார். முதல் சீசனின் வெற்றி அவருக்கு தன்னம்பிக்கையை மட்டுமல்ல, இன்னும் வித்தியாசமாக சிந்திக்கும் துணிச்சலையும் கொடுத்தது. ஆனால் அதே நேரத்தில், முதல் சீசனின் வெற்றியை மிஞ்ச வேண்டும் என்ற பொறுப்பும் அவருக்கு இருந்தது.

மதுரையை மையமாகக் கொண்ட இந்தக் கதையை இயல்பாக உருவாக்க, இயக்குநர் பல மாதங்கள் அங்கேயே தங்கி மக்களின் வாழ்க்கை முறையை நேரடியாகக் கவனித்து, அவர்களோடு பழகி, அதன் பிறகே திரைக்கதையை முழுமைப்படுத்தினார். அந்த நுணுக்கங்கள் அனைத்தும் தொடரின் ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியிலும் பிரதிபலிக்கும்,” என்று தெரிவித்தனர்.

மேலும், “மூஸா ராசா கதாபாத்திரத்தை எழுதிய பிறகு, அதில் சசிகுமார் மட்டுமே பொருத்தமாக இருப்பார் என்ற எண்ணம் எங்களுக்கு ஏற்பட்டது. ‘சுப்ரமணியபுரம்’ முதல் நாளே பார்த்த ரசிகர்களாக, அவருடன் பணியாற்ற வேண்டும் என்பது எங்களது நீண்டநாள் ஆசை. இந்தத் தொடர் அந்த ஆசையை நிறைவேற்றியது. மதுரை பின்னணியில் சசிகுமார் என்றாலே அரிவாள், ஆக்ஷன், ரத்தம் என்று ரசிகர்கள் எதிர்பார்ப்பார்கள். ஆனால் இந்த முறை அமைதியாகவும், நேர்மையாகவும், ஒரு நிரபராதியை காப்பாற்ற போராடும் போலீஸ் அதிகாரியாக அவர் முற்றிலும் புதிய பரிமாணத்தில் தோன்றுகிறார்,” என்று குறிப்பிட்டனர்.

இயக்குநர் ஆண்ட்ரூ லூயிஸ் பேசும்போது, “முதல் சீசன் யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காத நேரத்தில் வந்த வெற்றி. ஆனால் இப்போது அனைவரின் பார்வையும் ‘வதந்தி 2’ மீது இருக்கிறது. அந்த எதிர்பார்ப்பை பூர்த்தி செய்வதே எனக்கான உண்மையான சவால்.

இந்தக் கதையை பலமுறை மாற்றி, மூன்றாவது வடிவமாக எழுதினேன். அதனால்தான் முதல் சீசனுக்கும் இரண்டாவது சீசனுக்கும் நான்கு ஆண்டுகள் இடைவெளி ஏற்பட்டது. திரைக்கதை முழுமையடைவதற்கு முன்பே சசிகுமாரிடம் கதையைச் சொன்னேன். அவர் உடனடியாக சம்மதித்தது, மூஸா ராசா கதாபாத்திரத்தை இன்னும் ஆழமாக வடிவமைக்க என்னை ஊக்கப்படுத்தியது.

இந்தத் தொடருக்காக 43 நாட்கள் தொடர்ந்து மதுரை, காரைக்குடி, ராமநாதபுரம், திருச்சி உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் இடைவிடாத படப்பிடிப்பு நடைபெற்றது. ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் சுமார் 18 மணி நேரம் முழுக் குழுவினரும் உழைத்தனர். அந்த அர்ப்பணிப்பின் விளைவாகவே இன்று இந்தத் தொடர் உருவாகியுள்ளது,” என்றார்.

மேலும், “முதல் சீசனில் எஸ்.ஜே. சூர்யா ரசிகர்களின் மனதில் அழியாத தடம் பதித்தார். அந்த வெற்றிக்குப் பிறகு இரண்டாவது சீசனை உருவாக்குவது மிகப்பெரிய பொறுப்பு. ஆனால் இது முதல் சீசனின் தொடர்ச்சிக் கதை அல்ல. முற்றிலும் புதிய விசாரணை உலகம்,” என்றும் அவர் விளக்கமளித்தார்.

நடிகர் சசிகுமார் பேசுகையில், “தலைப்பைப் பார்த்தவுடன் ‘மணி’ என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நான் நடிப்பேன் என்று நினைத்தேன். மதுரை பின்னணியில் என்னை ரவுடியாகவே அனைவரும் கற்பனை செய்வார்கள். ஆனால் இயக்குநர், ‘நீங்கள் போலீஸ் அதிகாரி மூஸா ராசா’ என்றபோது எனக்கே ஆச்சரியமாக இருந்தது.

போலீஸ் கதாபாத்திரம் என்பதால் கம்பீரமாக நடக்க வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் இயக்குநர், ‘இது சாதாரண மனிதர்களுக்காக வாழும் ஒரு இயல்பான போலீஸ் அதிகாரி’ என்று சொல்லி, ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியிலும் அந்த இயல்பை மட்டுமே வெளிப்படுத்தச் செய்தார்.

இதுவரை வெளியான பல விசாரணைத் திரில்லர்களில் குற்றவாளியை கண்டுபிடிப்பதே முக்கியமாக இருக்கும். ஆனால் ‘வதந்தி 2’வில், ஒரு நிரபராதியை காப்பாற்ற போலீஸ் எவ்வளவு போராடுகிறார் என்பதே கதையின் மையம். அதுதான் இந்தத் தொடரின் தனித்துவம்.

இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் சிரிப்புக்கே இடமில்லை. படப்பிடிப்பில் நான் சிரித்தால்கூட, ‘மூஸா ராசா சிரிக்க மாட்டார்’ என்று இயக்குநர் நினைவூட்டிக்கொண்டே இருப்பார். ஆரம்பத்தில் சிரமமாக இருந்தாலும், பின்னர் அந்த கதாபாத்திரமாகவே வாழத் தொடங்கிவிட்டேன்,” என்றார்.

நடிகர் விவேக் பிரசன்னா, “ஆண்ட்ரூ லூயிஸ் போன்ற எழுத்தாளரின் திரைக்கதையில் நடிப்பது எளிது. எல்லாமே திரைக்கதையிலேயே இருக்கும். படப்பிடிப்பில் அவர் சொல்வதைச் செய்தாலே போதும். புஷ்கர் – காயத்ரி தயாரிப்பில் பணியாற்றுவது குடும்பத்தில் இருப்பது போன்ற உணர்வை தரும்,” என்று கூறினார்.

புதிய முகமான யஷ்வந்த், “இந்தத் தொடர் எனக்கு ஒரு வாய்ப்பு மட்டுமல்ல, ஒரு புதிய வாழ்க்கையைக் கொடுத்துள்ளது. இவ்வளவு பெரிய கதாபாத்திரத்தை என்னைப் போன்ற புதியவருக்கு நம்பிக்கையுடன் கொடுத்த இயக்குநருக்கும், தயாரிப்பாளர்களுக்கும் நன்றி. இதில் ஒரு பாடலையும் பாடியிருக்கிறேன் என்பது கூடுதல் மகிழ்ச்சி,” என்றார்.

நடிகை அபர்ணா தாஸ், “‘டாடா’ படத்திற்குப் பிறகு தமிழில் நல்ல கதைக்காக காத்திருந்தேன். அந்த நேரத்தில் இந்தத் தொடர் கிடைத்தது. ‘சுமையா’ கதாபாத்திரம் இதுவரை நான் நடித்ததில் மிகவும் வித்தியாசமானது. சசிகுமாருடன் இணைந்து நடிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற என் கனவும் இந்தத் தொடரின் மூலம் நிறைவேறியுள்ளது,” என்று பகிர்ந்துகொண்டார்.

அனகா மருதோரா, “லீலாவதி கதாபாத்திரம் முதலில் எனக்கு தயக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. ஆனால் இயக்குநர் அதன் முக்கியத்துவத்தை விளக்கிய பிறகு முழு ஈடுபாட்டுடன் நடித்தேன். ‘கருடன்’ படத்திற்குப் பிறகு மீண்டும் சசிகுமாருடன் இணைந்து நடித்தது மகிழ்ச்சி,” என்றார்.

இசையமைப்பாளர் சிமோன் கே. கிங் பேசும்போது, “முதல் சீசனுக்கும் இரண்டாவது சீசனுக்கும் இசை முற்றிலும் வேறுபடும். காரணம், கதை மாறியுள்ளது; அதன் உணர்வுகளும் மாறியுள்ளன. இந்த முறை இரண்டு பாடல்களும் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன. மனிதர்களின் உணர்வுகளை இசையின் மூலம் சொல்ல முயற்சித்திருக்கிறோம்,” என்றார்.

‘Vadhandhi Season 2: The Mystery of Mani’ Promises a Fresh Investigative Thriller; Team Confident of Surpassing Expectations

Ahead of the global premiere of ‘Vadhandhi Season 2: The Mystery of Mani’ on Prime Video from August 7, the makers hosted a grand press interaction in Chennai, offering insights into the making of the highly anticipated investigative thriller and the creative vision behind its new chapter.

Produced by Pushkar and Gayathri under the Wallwatcher Films banner and directed by Andrew Louis, the second season stars M. Sasikumar in the lead as police officer Moosa Raasa. The series also features Aparna Das, Anagha Maruthora, Vivek Prasanna, Yashwanth, Revathi Sharma, Arjun Nandakumar, and others, with music composed by Simon K. King.

Speaking at the event, producers Pushkar and Gayathri revealed that the idea for the second season had taken shape even while Andrew Louis was writing the first season.

“Andrew had already envisioned a completely different crime story for Season 2. Rather than continuing the previous case, he wanted to create a fresh mystery set in Madurai. To ensure authenticity, he spent several months living in Madurai, interacting with local people, observing their lifestyle, and understanding the region before completing the screenplay. Those real-life details have been seamlessly woven into the series,” they said.

They further added that casting Sasikumar as Moosa Raasa was an instinctive choice.

“When Andrew narrated the character, we immediately felt Sasikumar was the perfect fit. While audiences usually associate him with intense Madurai-based action roles, this series presents him in an entirely different light—as a calm, compassionate, and honest police officer determined to ensure that no innocent person is punished.”

Director Andrew Louis described the second season as his biggest creative challenge.

“Season 1 became an organic success without expectations. But Season 2 arrives with enormous anticipation, and living up to those expectations is my biggest responsibility.

I rewrote the script several times before arriving at the final version. That is one of the reasons why four years have passed between the two seasons. Even before completing the screenplay, I narrated the core idea to Sasikumar. The moment he agreed to come on board, I rewrote and refined the character of Moosa Raasa to suit him perfectly.”

He also highlighted the scale of production, revealing that the team filmed continuously for 43 days across Madurai, Karaikudi, Ramanathapuram, and Tiruchirappalli, often working nearly 18 hours a day to bring the world of the series to life.

Andrew acknowledged S.J. Suryah for making the first season memorable and clarified that although Vadhandhi Season 2 belongs to the same universe, it tells an entirely new story with a fresh investigation.

Sharing his experience, M. Sasikumar admitted that he initially assumed he would be playing the character “Mani” after hearing the title.

“Since the story is set in Madurai, I thought I’d once again be playing a rowdy. When Andrew told me I would instead portray police officer Moosa Raasa, I was genuinely surprised.

I imagined playing a stylish, commanding cop, but Andrew insisted that Moosa Raasa should feel like an ordinary police officer—a grounded man driven by integrity rather than heroism. That natural approach became the biggest strength of the character.”

He further explained that unlike conventional investigative thrillers where the suspense revolves around identifying the culprit, Vadhandhi Season 2 shifts the focus towards a police officer’s relentless fight to save an innocent man.

“Throughout the shoot, Andrew constantly reminded me that Moosa Raasa doesn’t smile casually. It took me a couple of days to adapt, but eventually I completely immersed myself in the role.”

Actor Vivek Prasanna praised Andrew Louis’ writing, calling him one of India’s finest screenwriters.

“Everything is already present in his screenplay. As actors, we simply have to trust the writing. Working under Pushkar and Gayathri is always special because they treat every member of the team like family.”

Newcomer Yashwanth described the project as a life-changing opportunity.

“This series has given me much more than a role—it has given me a new beginning. I was trusted with a substantial character despite being a newcomer, and I have also sung a song in the series.”

Actress Aparna Das shared that she had been waiting for a meaningful Tamil project after Dada.

“The role of Sumaiya is unlike anything I’ve played before. Working alongside Sasikumar was a dream come true, and I believe audiences will connect deeply with this character.”

Anagha Maruthora admitted she was initially hesitant about portraying Leelavathi, but Andrew Louis’ narration convinced her of the character’s emotional depth.

“It has been a wonderful experience reuniting with Sasikumar after Garudan, and working with Pushkar and Gayathri always feels like being part of a family.”

Composer Simon K. King explained that the music for the second season has a completely different identity from the first.

“The stories, landscapes, and emotional journeys are different, so the music naturally evolved in a new direction. Unlike Season 1, this installment also features two songs, adding another emotional layer to the narrative.”

With a brand-new mystery, compelling characters, and an emotionally driven investigation, ‘Vadhandhi Season 2: The Mystery of Mani’ is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on August 7.

The series will stream in Tamil, with dubbed versions in Telugu and Hindi, along with subtitles in more than 15 languages, reaching audiences across over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
