‘வெல்கம் டு த ஜங்கிள்’ – நட்சத்திரங்கள் ஏராளம்… ஆனால் கதை வழிதவறிய நகைச்சுவைப் பயணம்!

ஒரு திரைப்படத்திற்கு பிரம்மாண்டமான நட்சத்திர பட்டாளம் இருந்தாலே அது ரசிகர்களை முழுமையாக மகிழ்விக்கும் என்ற எண்ணம் எப்போதும் வெற்றி பெறாது என்பதை மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை நினைவூட்டுகிறது ‘வெல்கம் டு த ஜங்கிள்’.
திரைப்பட உலகையே நகைச்சுவையாக சாடும் சுவாரஸ்யமான கதைக் கருவுடன் படம் தொடங்குகிறது. தோல்வியடையும் ஒரு படத்தை திட்டமிட்டு தயாரிப்பதன் மூலம் பண மோசடியை மறைக்க முயலும் தயாரிப்பாளரை மையமாகக் கொண்டு நகரும் ஆரம்பக்காட்சிகள் ஆர்வத்தைத் தூண்டுகின்றன. ஆனால், அந்த சுவாரஸ்யமான கதையை தொடர்ந்து வலுவாக நகர்த்துவதற்குப் பதிலாக, சம்பவங்களின் தொடராகவும், தொடர்பற்ற நகைச்சுவைக் காட்சிகளின் தொகுப்பாகவும் படம் மாறிவிடுகிறது.
திரைக்கதையில் உறுதியான ஓட்டம் இல்லாததால், பல காட்சிகள் ஒன்றுக்கொன்று தொடர்பில்லாமல் நகர்கின்றன. கதையை முன்னோக்கி நகர்த்துவதற்குப் பதிலாக, பிரபல நடிகர்களின் வருகையை மட்டுமே நம்பி நகர்வது போன்ற உணர்வை படம் ஏற்படுத்துகிறது. இதனால் முதல் பாதியில் இருந்த எதிர்பார்ப்பு, இரண்டாம் பாதியில் படிப்படியாகக் குறைகிறது.
இருப்பினும், அக்ஷய் குமார் தனது இயல்பான நகைச்சுவை நடிப்பால் பல காட்சிகளை ரசிக்க வைக்கிறார். தன்னுடைய திரைபிம்பத்தையே கலாய்த்துக்கொள்ளும் விதத்தில் அவர் வெளிப்படுத்தும் உடல் மொழியும், டைமிங் காமெடியும் படத்தின் முக்கிய பலமாக அமைகிறது. அதேபோல் ஜானி லீவர், மிகக் குறைந்த வாய்ப்பிலும் தன்னுடைய அனுபவத்தால் சிரிப்பை உருவாக்கி கவனம் ஈர்க்கிறார்.
பரேஷ் ராவல், ராஜ்பால் யாதவ், சுனில் ஷெட்டி, அர்ஷத் வார்சி உள்ளிட்ட அனுபவம் வாய்ந்த நடிகர்கள் தங்களுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட கதாபாத்திரங்களை குறையின்றி செய்திருந்தாலும், அவர்களின் திறமையை முழுமையாக பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் திரைக்கதை அமைக்கப்படவில்லை. ஜாக்கி ஷெராஃப் தனது தனித்துவமான நடிப்பால் சில காட்சிகளில் மிரட்டுகிறார்.
படத்தின் தொழில்நுட்ப அம்சங்களில் பிரம்மாண்டம் தெரிந்தாலும், அதிகப்படியான கிரீன் ஸ்கிரீன் காட்சிகள் இயற்கைத்தன்மையை பாதிக்கின்றன. ஆக்ஷன் காட்சிகளும் சாகச உணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தாமல், செயற்கையாக உருவாக்கப்பட்டவை என்ற தோற்றத்தை அளிக்கின்றன. இசை மற்றும் பின்னணி இசை சில இடங்களில் உற்சாகத்தை அளித்தாலும், நீளமான திரைக்கதை காரணமாக அதன் தாக்கம் முழுமையாக வெளிப்படவில்லை.
படத்தில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ள சில சினிமா உலக நையாண்டிகள், பழைய திரைப்பட நினைவுகளை மீட்டெடுக்கும் தருணங்கள் மற்றும் நட்சத்திரங்களைப் பற்றிய சுயஎள்ளல் நகைச்சுவைகள் ரசிகர்களை ரசிக்க வைக்கின்றன. குறிப்பாக அக்ஷய் குமார் – ரவீனா டண்டன் இணையும் காட்சிகள் பழைய ரசிகர்களுக்கு இனிய நினைவுகளைத் தருகின்றன.
ஆனால், பல கதாபாத்திரங்கள் இருந்தும் அவற்றை சமநிலையுடன் பயன்படுத்தாதது படத்தின் மிகப்பெரிய குறையாக மாறியுள்ளது. சிலர் ஒரு வசனம் பேசுவதற்காக மட்டுமே திரையில் தோன்றுவது போன்ற உணர்வை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது. இதனால் திரைக்கதை பல இடங்களில் சிதறி, உணர்ச்சி மற்றும் நகைச்சுவை இரண்டுமே முழுமையான தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தத் தவறுகின்றன.
மொத்தத்தில், வெல்கம் டு த ஜங்கிள் பெரிய நட்சத்திர அணிவகுப்பையும், சில வெற்றிகரமான நகைச்சுவை தருணங்களையும் கொண்டிருந்தாலும், வலுவான திரைக்கதை மற்றும் சீரான திரைமொழி இல்லாததால் முழுமையான பொழுதுபோக்கு அனுபவமாக மாறவில்லை. ரசிகர்களை சிரிக்க வைக்கும் சில தருணங்கள் இருந்தாலும், படம் முடிந்தபின் மனதில் நிற்பது கதையல்ல; நட்சத்திரங்களின் நீண்ட பட்டியல்தான்.

‘Welcome to the Jungle’ – Stars galore… but a comedy ride that loses its way!

Once again, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ reminds us that a massive star cast alone does not guarantee complete entertainment for audiences.
The film opens with an interesting premise that humorously satirizes the film industry itself. The early scenes, centered on a producer trying to cover up a financial scam by deliberately making a flop film, spark curiosity. But instead of building steadily on that intriguing idea, the film turns into a series of incidents and a collection of unrelated comic scenes.
Because the screenplay lacks a firm flow, many scenes move without connecting to one another. Rather than pushing the story forward, the film gives the impression that it is relying solely on the arrival of popular actors. As a result, the anticipation built in the first half gradually fades in the second.
Even so, Akshay Kumar makes several scenes enjoyable with his trademark comic performance. His body language and timing, in which he pokes fun at his own screen image, become one of the film’s main strengths. Likewise, Johnny Lever manages to draw attention and laughter with his experience, even with very limited screen time.
Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, and other seasoned actors perform their assigned roles without flaw, but the screenplay does not allow their talent to be fully utilized. Jackie Shroff impresses in a few scenes with his distinctive performance.
Although the film’s technical aspects look grand, the excessive use of green-screen shots affects the sense of realism. The action sequences too fail to create a sense of adventure and instead feel artificially constructed. The music and background score provide energy in some places, but their impact is not fully realized because of the lengthy screenplay.
Some film-industry satire, moments that revive memories of older movies, and self-deprecating jokes about stars do entertain the audience. In particular, the scenes featuring Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon bring back pleasant memories for longtime fans.
However, despite having many characters, the failure to use them in a balanced way has become the film’s biggest drawback. Some appear on screen only to deliver a single line. As a result, the screenplay feels scattered in many places, and neither the emotional nor the comedic elements manage to make a complete impact.
Overall, Welcome to the Jungle has a huge star lineup and a few successful comic moments, but without a strong screenplay and a consistent cinematic language, it does not become a fully satisfying entertainment experience. There are moments that make audiences laugh, but what stays in mind after the film ends is not the story; it is the long list of stars.
