நகரின் அன்றாட வாழ்க்கையில் யாரும் கவனிக்காமல் கடந்து செல்லும் ஒரு தூய்மை பணியாளர், இன்று சமூகத்தின் மனசாட்சியாக மாறியுள்ளார். பெருநகர சென்னை மாநகராட்சியில் தூய்மை பணியாளராக பணியாற்றும் பத்மா, சமீபத்தில் கண்டெடுத்த 45 சவரன் தங்க நகைகளை எந்தத் தயக்கமும் இன்றி காவல் துறையிடம் ஒப்படைத்தது, பொதுமக்களிடையே பெரும் பாராட்டைப் பெற்றது.

இந்த நேர்மையான செயலை அங்கீகரிக்கும் வகையில் தமிழக முதல்வர் மு.க. ஸ்டாலின் முதல் பல்வேறு தரப்பினரும் பத்மாவை நேரிலும், பொது வெளிகளிலும் பாராட்டி வருகின்றனர். மத்திய அரசு அவரது நேர்மையை போற்றும் வகையில் தபால் தலை ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் ரஜினிகாந்த் நேரில் அழைத்து தங்க சங்கிலி பரிசளித்து மரியாதை செய்ததும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
இந்த வரிசையில், புதுமையான சிந்தனைகளுக்குப் பெயர் பெற்ற இயக்குநரும் நடிகருமான இராதாகிருஷ்ணன் பார்த்திபன், பத்மாவை எத்திராஜ் மகளிர் கல்லூரிக்கு அழைத்து வந்து மாணவிகள் முன்னிலையில் கௌரவித்தார். கல்லூரி நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக அழைக்கப்பட்ட பார்த்திபன், அந்த மேடையை நேர்மைக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்தில் பத்மாவையும் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக அழைத்துச் சென்றுள்ளார்.

திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் உள்ள பத்மாவின் இல்லத்திற்கு நேரில் சென்று அழைப்பு விடுத்ததாக தெரிவித்த பார்த்திபன், “இன்றைய காலகட்டத்தில் தங்கத்தின் மதிப்பு வானைத் தொட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கும் சூழலில், 45 சவரன் தங்கத்தை காவல்துறையிடம் ஒப்படைத்த பத்மாவின் மன உறுதியும், நேர்மையும் மாணவிகளுக்கு ஒரு பெரிய பாடம். அதற்காகவே அவரை இந்த மேடைக்கு அழைத்தேன்” என்றார்.
நிகழ்ச்சியில், பத்மாவிற்கு புதிய காலணிகளை அணிவித்து, புடவை வழங்கிய பார்த்திபன், அவரது காலில் விழுந்து ஆசி பெற்றது அங்கிருந்த மாணவிகளிடையே பெரும் நெகிழ்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியது. “இது என் வாழ்நாளில் மறக்க முடியாத மகிழ்ச்சியான தருணம்” என்றும் அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

Honesty Finds a Stage: Parthiban Honours Sanitation Worker Padma at Ethiraj College

A sanitation worker who would normally go unnoticed in the rush of city life has today emerged as a symbol of social conscience. Padma, who works as a sanitation worker with the Greater Chennai Corporation, recently earned widespread appreciation after she handed over 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery she had found to the police without any hesitation.
Recognising her honest act, several sections of society, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, have personally and publicly appreciated Padma. The Central Government also released a postal stamp in honour of her integrity. Superstar Rajinikanth invited her to his residence and presented her with a gold chain as a mark of respect.
Continuing this chain of recognition, director and actor Radhakrishnan Parthiban, known for his innovative thinking, invited Padma to Ethiraj College for Women and honoured her in front of students. Parthiban, who was invited as a special guest for a college event, felt the platform should celebrate honesty and therefore invited Padma to attend the programme as a special guest.
Parthiban stated that he personally visited Padma’s residence in Triplicane to invite her. “At a time when the value of gold is skyrocketing, Padma’s courage and honesty in handing over 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery to the police is a powerful lesson for students. That is why I invited her to this stage,” he said.
During the event, Parthiban presented Padma with new footwear and a saree. He also touched her feet and sought her blessings, which created an emotional moment among the students present. He described the occasion as “a joyful moment that will remain unforgettable in my life.”
He further added, “Padma deserves endless appreciation. I also extend my congratulations to her husband, an auto driver, and her family members who continuously support her while she carries out the demanding work of sanitation.”
Padma, a resident of Pillaiyar Koil Street in Triplicane, discovered the bag while she was on duty in T. Nagar last month. Upon checking, she found that it contained 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery and immediately handed it over to the Pondy Bazaar Police Station. During the investigation, the jewellery was identified as belonging to Paramesh, a resident of Nanganallur, and was safely returned to him.
This incident, where a sanitation worker’s honesty has become a celebrated social value, serves as a strong reminder that integrity continues to live among ordinary people.
