அல்லு அர்ஜுன் படத்தின் பணிகளை நிறைவு செய்துவிட்டு அடுத்ததாக கைதி 2 படத்தின் பணிகளை தொடங்க உள்ளேன்’ என இயக்குநர் லோகேஷ் கனகராஜ்

நேற்று சென்னையில் நடைபெற்ற பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பில் இயக்குநர்–நடிகர் லோகேஷ் கனகராஜ் தன்னுடைய தற்போதைய பணிகள், எதிர்காலத் திட்டங்கள் மற்றும் சமூக வலைதளங்களில் வெளியான விமர்சனங்கள் குறித்து மனம் திறந்து பேசினார்.
அப்போது அவர் கூறியதாவது:
“ஒவ்வொரு படமும் வெளியான பிறகு ஊடகங்களை சந்திப்பது எனக்கு வழக்கம். ‘கூலி’ படத்திற்கு பிறகு உங்களை சந்திக்க வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்தேன். இப்போதுதான் அந்த வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்துள்ளது.
‘கூலி’ படம் 35 நாட்கள் திரையரங்குகளில் ஓடியது மகிழ்ச்சி. வசூல் குறித்து பேச விரும்பவில்லை. சன் பிக்சர்ஸ் இந்த படம் லாபம் கண்டதாக தெரிவித்துள்ளது. ஆயிரம் விமர்சனங்களை தாண்டி படம் ஓடியது எனக்கு மிகப்பெரிய திருப்தி.
சமூக வலைதளங்களில் வந்த விமர்சனங்கள் என்னை யோசிக்க வைத்தன. ரசிகர்கள் என்னிடமிருந்து என்ன எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்கள் என்பதை புரிந்து கொள்ள உதவின. அந்த கருத்துகளை அடுத்த படங்களில் பயன்படுத்தி, இன்னும் சிறந்த படங்களை கொடுக்க முயற்சி செய்வேன்.
‘கூலி’ வெளியீட்டு நேரத்தில் ரஜினிகாந்த் சார், கமல்ஹாசன் சார் இருவரையும் சந்தித்தேன். இருவரும் ஒன்றாக ஒரு படம் செய்ய ஆசை தெரிவித்தார்கள். 46 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு அவர்கள் சேர்ந்து நடிக்க வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது எனக்கு மிகப் பெரிய விஷயம். அந்த படத்தை இயக்கும் பொறுப்பையும் எனக்கே கொடுத்தார்கள்.
ஆனால் அவர்கள் இருவரும் சமீபத்தில் தொடர்ந்து ஆக்ஷன் படங்களில் நடித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதால், இந்த முறை மென்மையான, ஆக்ஷன் குறைவான கதையாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்ற விருப்பத்தை தெரிவித்தனர். அந்த ஸ்டைலில் படம் எடுப்பது எனக்கு முழுமையாக வசதி இல்லை என்பதால், நேர்மையாக சொல்லி அந்த முயற்சியிலிருந்து விலகினேன்.
அதற்கிடையில் ‘கைதி 2’ எனது திட்டமாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் நான் எப்போது திரும்புவேன் என்று உறுதி இல்லாத காரணத்தால், நடிகர் கார்த்தி அந்த கால்ஷீட்டை வேறு இயக்குநருக்கு வழங்கினார். இதுதான் உண்மை.
சம்பளம் அதிகம் கேட்டதால் ‘கைதி 2’ தடைப்பட்டது என்று சில செய்திகள் வெளியானது தவறு. இயக்குநரின் சம்பளம் சந்தை மதிப்பை வைத்து தயாரிப்பாளர் தீர்மானிப்பார்.
கடந்த வாரம் ‘கைதி 2’ தயாரிப்பாளரை சந்தித்து பேசிவிட்டேன். அல்லு அர்ஜுன் படத்தை முடித்த பிறகு என் அடுத்த படம் ‘கைதி 2’ தான்.
LCU முடிந்துவிட்டது என்று சிலர் சொல்கிறார்கள். LCU என்ற பெயரை நான் வைக்கவில்லை; ரசிகர்கள்தான் வைத்தார்கள். அதை நான் மதிக்கிறேன். ‘கைதி 2’, ‘விக்ரம் 2’, ‘ரோலக்ஸ்’ – இவை எல்லாம் என்னுடைய கமிட்மெண்ட்கள். இவற்றை முடிக்காமல் நான் நிற்கமாட்டேன். அதனால் LCU தொடரும். எங்களுடைய தயாரிப்பில் உருவாகும் ‘பென்ஸ்’ படமும் அதில் ஒரு பகுதியே.
மைத்ரி மூவி மேக்கர்ஸ் நிறுவனத்துடன் பழைய கமிட்மெண்ட் இருந்தது. அதனை நிறைவேற்றும் வகையில், அல்லு அர்ஜுனுடன் இணைந்து படம் செய்கிறேன். மூன்று ஆண்டுகளாக அதற்கான பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடந்து வந்தது. இப்போது அனைத்தும் சரியாக அமைந்துள்ளது.
அமீர் கானுடன் இணைந்து ஒரு படம் செய்யும் பேச்சுவார்த்தையும் இன்னும் தொடர்கிறது. அவர் பிஸியாக இருப்பதால், சரியான நேரத்தில் நிச்சயம் இணைவோம்.”
இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் எழுப்பிய அனைத்து கேள்விகளுக்கும் லோகேஷ் கனகராஜ் விரிவாக பதிலளித்தார்.
“After completing the work on the Allu Arjun film, I will begin the work on Kaithi 2 next,” said director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

At a recent press meet held in Chennai, director–actor Lokesh Kanagaraj spoke openly about his current projects, future plans, and the criticism he has received on social media.
He said:
“After the release of every film, it is my habit to meet the media. After ‘Coolie’, I wanted to interact with you all, and now I finally got that opportunity.
I am happy that ‘Coolie’ ran in theatres for 35 days. I do not want to talk about collections. Sun Pictures has informed us that the film is profitable. The fact that the movie crossed many criticisms and still ran successfully gives me great satisfaction.
The feedback and criticism on social media made me think deeply. It helped me understand what the audience expects from me and what kind of storytelling they like. I will try to apply those learnings in my upcoming films and deliver better cinema.
Around the time of ‘Coolie’ release, I met Mr. Rajinikanth and Mr. Kamal Haasan. Both of them expressed their wish to act together in a film. After almost 46 years, getting an opportunity to direct them together was a huge moment for me.
However, since both of them have been continuously doing heavy action films recently, they wanted the next one to be a soft, non-action oriented script. I honestly told them that such a style is not my strength, and I stepped away from that project.
Meanwhile, ‘Kaithi 2’ was in my plan. But since there was uncertainty about when I would return to it, actor Karthi gave his dates to another director. That is the actual truth.
There were reports that ‘Kaithi 2’ did not happen because I demanded a high salary. That is completely false. A director’s remuneration is decided by the producer and the market value, not by personal demand alone.
Last week, I met the producer of ‘Kaithi 2’ and had discussions. After completing the Allu Arjun film, my next project will definitely be ‘Kaithi 2’.
Some news claimed that the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) has ended. I never named it LCU; the fans did, and I respect that. I cannot decide alone that it is over. ‘Kaithi 2’, ‘Vikram 2’, and ‘Rolex’ are all my commitments. I cannot move on without completing them. So the LCU will continue. The film ‘Benz’, which is being produced under our banner, is also part of the LCU.
I also have an old commitment with Mythri Movie Makers. To fulfil that, I am directing a film with Allu Arjun. We have been in discussion for the past three years, and now everything has fallen into place.
Talks are also ongoing for a collaboration with Aamir Khan. Since he already has many projects lined up, we will work together at the right time.”
