சினிமா ரசிகர்களின் நினைவுகளில் தனித்த அடையாளம் பதித்த சில படங்கள், காலம் கடந்தும் தங்களின் மாஸை இழப்பதில்லை. அத்தகைய படங்களில் ஒன்றுதான் சிம்புவின் “சிலம்பாட்டம்”. 2008ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளியான இந்த படம், இன்றும் STR ரசிகர்களிடம் ஒரு கல்ட் கிளாசிக்காக பேசப்பட்டு வரும் நிலையில், வருகிற பிப்ரவரி 6ஆம் தேதி மீண்டும் திரையரங்குகளை அதிரவைக்க தயாராகியுள்ளது.
சிலம்பரசன் என்ற நடிகரின் மாஸ், ஸ்டைல், கிராமத்து மணம், ஆக்‌ஷன் உடல் மொழி என அனைத்தையும் ஒரே கதையில் இணைத்த படம் “சிலம்பாட்டம்”. “தமிழரசன்” என்ற மண்ணின் மகன், “விச்சு” என்ற நகரத்து டான் – இந்த இரு வேடங்களிலும் STR காட்டிய மாற்றம், அவரின் நடிப்பு வரம்பை ரசிகர்களுக்கு உணர்த்திய முக்கிய படமாக இது அமைந்தது.
கிராமத்து அரசியல் பின்னணி, சிலம்பக் கலையை மையமாக கொண்ட போராட்டக் காட்சிகள், அம்மா–மகன் பாசம், வில்லன்களின் வலுவான உருவாக்கம் என பல அடுக்குகளில் கதை விரிந்த “சிலம்பாட்டம்”, வெளியான காலத்தில் நல்ல வசூலையும், ரசிகர் ஆதரவையும் பெற்றது. காலப்போக்கில் அது ஒரு ‘மாஸ் ரெஃபரன்ஸ்’ படமாக மாறி, இன்றைய இளம் தலைமுறைக்கும் புதிதாக அறிமுகமாகும் வகையில் மீண்டும் திரைக்கு வருகிறது.
இயக்குநர் S. சரவணன் இயக்கத்தில், யுவன் ஷங்கர் ராஜாவின் இசை, “சிலம்பாட்டம்” படத்திற்கு உயிர் ஊட்டிய முக்கிய காரணமாக அமைந்தது. டைட்டில் பாடல் முதல் மெலடி, குத்து பாடல்கள் வரை அனைத்தும் இன்று வரை ரசிகர்களின் ப்ளேலிஸ்டில் இடம் பிடித்திருக்கின்றன. சிநேகா, சந்தானம், சானாகான் உள்ளிட்ட நடிகர்களின் பங்களிப்பும் படத்திற்கு வலுவான துணையாக இருந்தது.
டிஜிட்டல் தொழில்நுட்பத்தில் மேம்படுத்தப்பட்ட ஒலி – படத்தரத்துடன், எல்மா பிக்சர்ஸ் எத்தில் ராஜ் வெளியீட்டில், “சிலம்பாட்டம்” மீண்டும் திரையரங்குகளில் ஒலிக்கவுள்ள இந்த தருணம், STR ரசிகர்களுக்கு ஒரு நினைவுப் பயணமும், புதிய தலைமுறைக்கு ஒரு மாஸ் அனுபவமும் ஆகும்.
மாஸ் சிம்பு, ஆக்‌ஷன் சிம்பு, மண்ணின் மணம் கொண்ட சிம்பு – மூன்றையும் ஒரே திரையில் மீண்டும் காணும் திருவிழா, பிப்ரவரி 6 முதல் தொடங்குகிறது.

From Cult Status to Big-Screen Celebration – “Silambattam” Roars Back
Some films leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of cinema lovers and never lose their mass appeal, no matter how much time passes. One such film is Silambattam, starring Silambarasan (STR). Released in 2008, the movie went on to attain cult status among fans, and now it is all set to thunder back onto the big screen on February 6.
Silambattam perfectly blended STR’s mass, style, rural flavour, and powerful action into a single narrative. His dual roles as the earthy “Tamilarasan” and the urban don “Vichu” showcased his versatility and marked an important milestone in his acting career.
Set against a backdrop of village politics, featuring action sequences inspired by the traditional martial art of Silambam, and enriched with emotional mother–son sentiment and strong antagonist characters, the film received good box-office returns and immense fan support upon its original release. Over the years, it has evolved into a mass reference film, and its re-release will introduce it afresh to the younger generation.
Directed by S. Saravanan, the film’s biggest strength was Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music. From the title track to melodious and kuthu numbers, every song became a chartbuster and continues to remain in fans’ playlists even today. The performances of Sneha, Santhanam, and Sana Khan further added strength to the film.
Now, with digitally enhanced sound and picture quality, Silambattam is returning to theatres under the release banner of Elma Pictures’ Ethil Raj. This re-release promises to be both a nostalgic journey for STR fans and a powerful mass experience for a new generation.
Mass STR, action STR, and the son-of-the-soil STR — witnessing all three once again on the big screen will truly be a festival, beginning from February 6.
