இந்திய திரைப்படத் துறை தற்போது எதிர்கொண்டு வரும் பொருளாதார அழுத்தங்கள் குறித்து நடிகரும் தயாரிப்பாளருமான வெளியிட்டுள்ள விரிவான அறிக்கை திரையுலகில் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. உலகளாவிய பொருளாதார சிக்கல்கள், போர் சூழ்நிலைகள் மற்றும் உயர்ந்து வரும் தயாரிப்பு செலவுகள் குறித்து கவலை தெரிவித்துள்ள அவர், “சினிமாவின் எதிர்காலத்தை காப்பாற்ற வேண்டுமெனில் முதலில் தேவையற்ற ஆடம்பரங்களை கட்டுப்படுத்த வேண்டும்” என்று வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார்.

திரைப்படத் தயாரிப்பில் அதிகரித்து வரும் வெளிநாட்டு படப்பிடிப்புகள், பிரம்மாண்ட செலவுகள், திட்டமிடல் இல்லாத தயாரிப்பு தாமதங்கள் போன்றவை திரைத்துறைக்கு மிகப்பெரிய சுமையாக மாறிவிட்டதாக அவர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். “ஒவ்வொரு காதல் கதையும் பாரிஸில் தான் மலர வேண்டுமா? ஒவ்வொரு தேனிலவும் சுவிட்சர்லாந்தில் தான் முடிய வேண்டுமா?” என்ற கேள்வியை முன்வைத்து, இந்திய சினிமா தனது சொந்த மண்ணின் அழகையும் வளங்களையும் நம்ப வேண்டும் எனக் கூறியுள்ளார்.

அதே நேரத்தில், சினிமா சீர்திருத்தம் என்ற பெயரில் தொழிலாளர்களின் சம்பளம், பாதுகாப்பு, உணவு, போக்குவரத்து, தங்குமிடம் போன்ற அடிப்படை உரிமைகள் எந்த நிலையிலும் பாதிக்கப்படக் கூடாது என்றும் அவர் தெளிவுபடுத்தியுள்ளார். “சுமை தொழிலாளர்களின் மீது விழக்கூடாது; வீண் செலவுகளின் மீது தான் விழ வேண்டும்” என்ற அவரது கருத்து பலரது கவனத்தை ஈர்த்துள்ளது.

மேலும் தயாரிப்பாளர்கள், நடிகர்கள், இயக்குநர்கள், OTT தளங்கள், திரையரங்கு உரிமையாளர்கள், தொழிற்சங்கங்கள் உள்ளிட்ட அனைவரும் ஒன்றிணைந்து திரைத்துறைக்கான புதிய நடைமுறை பொருளாதார மாடலை உருவாக்க வேண்டிய அவசியம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும் கமல்ஹாசன் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

Veteran actor and filmmaker has sparked widespread discussion in the film industry with a strongly worded statement addressing the growing financial pressures faced by Indian cinema. Highlighting the impact of global economic instability, war-related tensions, and rising production costs, he emphasized that “the future of cinema can only be protected if unnecessary extravagance is controlled.”

Kamal Haasan pointed out that excessive foreign shoots, lavish spending, poor planning, and avoidable production delays have become a heavy burden on the industry. Raising a striking question, he asked, “Does every love story need to bloom in Paris? Does every honeymoon have to end in Switzerland?” urging Indian cinema to place greater faith in the beauty and resources of its own country.

At the same time, he firmly stated that any reforms in cinema economics should never affect the wages, safety, food, transport, accommodation, or dignity of workers and technicians. His observation that “the burden should fall on wasteful expenses, not on hardworking labourers” has drawn significant attention.

He also called for filmmakers, actors, producers, OTT platforms, theatre owners, distributors, and film unions to come together and create a more practical and sustainable economic model for the industry.

“Grandeur is not extravagance; true grandeur lies in clear planning and disciplined execution,” Kamal Haasan remarked, a statement that is now becoming a major talking point across the film fraternity.
