தெலுங்கானா, ஆந்திரப் பிரதேசம், தமிழ்நாடு மற்றும் கேரள மாநிலங்களைச் சேர்ந்த தயாரிப்பாளர்கள், சங்கங்கள் மற்றும் கில்ட்களின் பிரதிநிதிகள் கலந்து கொண்ட முக்கிய ஆலோசனை கூட்டம் ஹைதராபாத்தில் நடைபெற்றது. இந்தக் கூட்டத்தில், தயாரிப்பாளர்களின் கருத்து இல்லாமல் எடுக்கப்படும் ஒருதலைப்பட்ச முடிவுகள் தொழில்துறைக்கு பாதிப்பு ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டது.

அதே நேரத்தில், OTT வெளியீட்டு காலவரையறை குறித்து எந்தவொரு உறுதிமொழியையும் இப்போது வழங்க வேண்டாம் என்றும், இந்த விஷயம் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து ஆலோசித்து தீர்மானிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும் கூட்டத்தில் வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டது.

Producers Unite Amid OTT-Theatrical Tensions: SIFPA Emerges as a Strong New Voice in South Indian Cinema
Hyderabad, April 19, 2026 – At a time when the South Indian film industry is witnessing rapid changes and growing uncertainty around OTT and theatrical release models, film producers have taken a significant step to safeguard their interests and maintain industry balance.
A key meeting was held in Hyderabad with the participation of producers, associations, and guild representatives from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. During the discussion, strong concerns were raised over unilateral decisions being taken without consulting producers, which could disrupt the industry ecosystem.
Particular emphasis was placed on the evolving norms around theatrical release terms and OTT windowing. Producers expressed that sudden implementation of such changes could adversely impact films already in production, creating uncertainty across projects at various stages. They also highlighted that the film industry supports thousands of livelihoods, and any major shift must be carefully planned and collectively agreed upon.
In response to these challenges, it was unanimously decided to form a new body – the South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA). The association is expected to serve as a unified platform representing producers across all four South Indian film industries.
Additionally, a steering committee comprising representatives from each state has been established to address immediate concerns and ensure continuous coordination among stakeholders. This committee will play a key role in guiding future decisions affecting the industry.
Producers have also been advised to independently continue their existing practices regarding film production, rights sales, and release schedules, without adhering to external controls imposed by any association.
On the matter of OTT release windows, producers have been specifically cautioned against making any commitments at this stage. It was stressed that such decisions must only be taken through collective consultation to ensure the financial sustainability of the production sector.
This unified move is being seen as a crucial turning point, strengthening the voice and position of producers within the South Indian film industry.
