Now, the sacred composition finds a fresh contemporary expression through the voice of acclaimed young singer Uthara Unnikrishnan.
Released across leading digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana and YouTube Music on May 20, the new rendition attempts to reconnect younger audiences with the spiritual essence of the timeless hymn. The lyric video is set to premiere on May 23 via the Rajshri Soul YouTube channel.
Rather than reinventing the classic, the project carefully reinterprets it for a generation raised on digital soundscapes. Originally composed in the 15th century by Shri Prathivadhi Bhayankaram Annangaracharya and immortalised in popular culture by the legendary M. S. Subbulakshmi, the Suprabhatham remains deeply rooted in India’s devotional consciousness. This latest version preserves that spiritual depth while embracing a softer, contemporary musical treatment.
Composer Prithvi Chandrashekar and producer Sandeep Reddy of Sea Records have approached the project with a balance of reverence and accessibility, creating a devotional experience that feels rooted in tradition yet relatable to modern listeners.
At the centre of this reimagined presentation is Uthara Unnikrishnan, a vocalist who has steadily emerged as one of the most versatile young voices in Indian music. Trained rigorously in Carnatic music from childhood and mentored by her father, celebrated singer P. Unnikrishnan, Uthara effortlessly bridges classical discipline with cinematic and fusion sensibilities.
Her breakthrough came with “Azhage Azhage” from Saivam, which earned her the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer at a remarkably young age. Since then, she has continued to carve a unique space for herself through emotionally resonant performances across genres.
With Shri Venkatesa Suprabhatham, Uthara’s musical journey takes on a more spiritual dimension — one that highlights how traditional devotional art can continue to evolve without losing its soul.
