50 People Set to Fly for the First Time! Raindrops Gives Wings to Dreams Through ‘Vaaname Ellai’
From Chennai to Tiruchirappalli by flight, followed by visits to the historic Kallanai Dam and Thanjavur Big Temple – an unforgettable journey awaits!
Chennai: For many, travelling by air may be an ordinary experience. But for those who have never had the opportunity to board an aircraft, taking their first flight remains a lifelong dream. Making such dreams come true, Raindrops Charity Foundation is all set to bring smiles to 50 individuals through its special initiative, ‘Raindrops Vaaname Ellai’, on the occasion of Children’s Day.
As part of this initiative, 50 beneficiaries will travel by flight from Chennai to Tiruchirappalli on Saturday, November 14, 2026. For several participants, this will be their very first flight experience – a dream that has remained out of reach due to financial constraints.
Bringing People from Different Walks of Life Together
The special journey will bring together children from Anantham Learning Centre, Anantham Special School, Sevalaya, Maatram Foundation and students supported through the Raindrops educational assistance programme. Residents of Raindrops Anbagam Old Age Home, a student with visual impairment and a transgender individual will also be part of the journey.
By bringing together children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds, the initiative sends out a powerful message that happiness and meaningful experiences should be accessible to everyone, irrespective of age, physical ability or financial circumstances.
A Journey That Connects Every Airport in Tamil Nadu
This year’s Chennai–Tiruchirappalli flight marks another significant milestone for the Raindrops Vaaname Ellai initiative. With this journey, Raindrops has now covered all airports across Tamil Nadu through its ongoing efforts over the years.
Launched with the vision of making the dream of flying a reality for underprivileged children and marginalised communities, Vaaname Ellai has created countless memorable experiences over the years. This year’s journey adds another milestone to the initiative while inspiring the Foundation to reach out to many more people and fulfil their dreams.
From the Skies to the Historic Landmarks of the Chola Dynasty
The excitement does not end with the first flight. Upon reaching Tiruchirappalli, the participants will visit the historic Kallanai Dam, also known as the Grand Anicut, built by the legendary Chola king Karikala Chola. Recognised as one of the world’s oldest water-regulation structures still in use, Kallanai stands as a remarkable example of ancient Tamil engineering and heritage.
The group will subsequently travel to Thanjavur to visit the world-renowned Brihadeeswarar Temple, popularly known as the Thanjavur Big Temple. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the magnificent temple is celebrated for its architectural brilliance and the grandeur of Chola-era craftsmanship.
Following the sightseeing tour, the participants will return to Chennai by train.
From experiencing the excitement of their first flight to exploring iconic historical landmarks, the journey promises a memorable combination of discovery, learning, happiness and togetherness for everyone involved.
Supported by Anantham Trust and VGP Ulaga Tamil Sangam
This year’s Raindrops Vaaname Ellai initiative is being organised with the support of Anantham Trust and VGP Ulaga Tamil Sangam.

Aravind Jayapal, Founder and Managing Trustee of Raindrops Charity Foundation, along with members of the Raindrops team, will also join the journey.
‘Dreams Have No Age or Limitations’ – Aravind Jayapal
Speaking about the initiative, Aravind Jayapal said:
“For many of us, travelling by flight may be an ordinary experience. But for these children and senior citizens, it is a lifelong dream. Our objective is not just to offer them a flight experience. We want them to feel valued, loved and, most importantly, to know that their dreams matter.
We are extremely happy and proud that, through this year’s journey, our Vaaname Ellai initiative has covered all the airports across Tamil Nadu over the years. Raindrops Vaaname Ellai is not merely about air travel; it is an ongoing social initiative that gives wings to the dreams of the underprivileged.
Dreams have no age, and they should never be restricted by an individual’s abilities. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the beautiful moments that life has to offer.”
For the 50 participants, this may be just a short flight from Chennai to Tiruchirappalli, but the memories created along the way are certain to last a lifetime. Through Vaaname Ellai, Raindrops continues to demonstrate that sometimes, a little opportunity is all it takes to help someone reach for the sky.
