Jackky Bhagnani Shares his Experience of his Debut Film ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’: I had no idea that this would eventually become the starting point of my career
R Madhavan and Dia Mirza’s Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein is a cult classic. Not many know that the film also marked the debut of renowned filmmaker Jackky Bhagnani. Recently, he opened up about his first experience of being in front of the camera at a time when he was facing issues with his self-worth.
Calling the film one of his favourites, Jackky shares, “There’s a scene where a boy enters and says, ‘Ma’am, flowers for you..’ That was my very first experience in front of the camera. At that time, I was extremely nervous. I had just passed my 10th standard, and it was during the break period after exams.”
The actor recalls weighing around 150 kilos back then. “At that age, people tend to make fun of you. Kids can be very direct, and sometimes quite ruthless. I started facing issues with my self-worth and felt like I needed to do something about it,” he says and mentions going to his Dad, Vashu Bhagnani, to ask for work as an actor, “I want to earn my own pocket money. I wanted to feel like I’ve earned it,” he states.
And that’s how his journey with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein began. “I started working there as an assistant. The film was directed by Gautham Menon sir. The shoot was happening in South Africa, where it wasn’t easy to find Indian actors quickly. So they said, “Jackky, why don’t you do it?” Bhagnani agreed to it and had his first real experience in front of the camera. “That small scene—“Ma’am, flowers for you”—was my very first shot. At that time, I had no idea that this would eventually become the starting point of my career,” he concludes.
