“தயாரிப்பாளர்களின் நம்பிக்கையை காப்பதே முதல் வெற்றி!” – ‘மொத ராத்திரி’ இயக்குநர் ராஜா கருப்பசாமி

பத்திரிகை மற்றும் ஊடகத் துறையில் இருந்து சினிமா இயக்குநராக தனது அடுத்த பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கியிருக்கிறார் ராஜா கருப்பசாமி. ‘மொத ராத்திரி’ திரைப்படத்தின் மூலம் இயக்குநராக அறிமுகமாகும் அவர், முதல் படத்திலேயே வித்தியாசமான திருமணத்தை மையமாக வைத்து குடும்ப உறவுகள், நகைச்சுவை மற்றும் எதிர்பாராத சம்பவங்கள் கலந்த கதையை சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.

ஊடகத்திலிருந்து சினிமா இயக்குநர் வரை…

“ஒரு திரைப்படத்தின் வெற்றியில் கிட்டத்தட்ட 50 சதவீதம் நடிகர்கள் தேர்விலேயே இருக்கிறது என்று நான் நம்புகிறேன். ஒரு கதாபாத்திரத்துக்கு சரியான நடிகரைத் தேர்வு செய்துவிட்டால், அந்தப் படத்தின் பாதி வேலை முடிந்துவிட்டதாகவே கருதலாம். அதனால் ‘மொத ராத்திரி’ படத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு கதாபாத்திரத்துக்கும் பொருத்தமான நடிகர்களைத் தேர்வு செய்வதில் அதிக கவனம் செலுத்தினேன்” என்கிறார்.

அறிமுக இயக்குநராக இருந்தபோதும், முன்னணி தயாரிப்பு நிறுவனமான மைத்ரி மூவி மேக்கர்ஸ் தன் மீது நம்பிக்கை வைத்து வாய்ப்பு வழங்கியது மிகப்பெரிய பொறுப்பு என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.

“எனது தயாரிப்பாளர்களை மகிழ்ச்சியடையச் செய்வதே எனது மிகப்பெரிய இலக்கு. மைத்ரி மூவி மேக்கர்ஸ் போன்ற புகழ்பெற்ற நிறுவனம் ஒரு அறிமுக இயக்குநரான என் மீது நம்பிக்கை வைத்தது எனக்கு மிகப்பெரிய பொறுப்பு. நவீன் யெர்னேனி சார் மற்றும் ஒய். ரவி சங்கர் சார் இருவரும் ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்தே எனக்கு முழுமையான நம்பிக்கையையும் படைப்புச் சுதந்திரத்தையும் வழங்கினர்.

அவர்கள் என் மீது வைத்த நம்பிக்கையை காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும் என்பதோடு, ரசிகர்கள் திரையரங்கில் ரசிக்கும் வகையிலான ஒரு படத்தையும் கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்பதுதான் எனது நோக்கமாக இருந்தது” என்கிறார் ராஜா கருப்பசாமி.

ரிஷிகாந்த் – அனிஷ்மா கூட்டணி ஏன்?

‘மொத ராத்திரி’ படத்தின் கதைக்கு ரிஷிகாந்த் மற்றும் அனிஷ்மா அனில்குமார் இருவரும் மிகச் சரியான தேர்வு என்கிறார் இயக்குநர்.

“படத்தின் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரங்களான இருவரும் முற்றிலும் மாறுபட்ட குணாதிசயங்களைக் கொண்டவர்கள். ஒருபுறம் ‘துபாய் மாப்பிள்ளை’, மறுபுறம் மிகவும் அமைதியான, அடக்கமான மருமகள். இந்த இரண்டு கதாபாத்திரங்களும் திருமணத்தின் மூலம் ஒன்றாகும்போது ஏற்படும் சூழ்நிலைகள்தான் கதையின் சுவாரஸ்யத்துக்கு முக்கிய காரணம்.

ரிஷிகாந்த் மற்றும் அனிஷ்மா இருவரும் அந்தக் கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கு மிகவும் பொருத்தமாக இருந்தார்கள். அவர்களுடன் நடித்துள்ள மற்ற நடிகர்களும் தங்களது கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கு தேவையான இயல்பான நடிப்பை வழங்கியிருக்கிறார்கள். அது படத்திற்கு நல்ல எனர்ஜியை கொடுத்துள்ளது” என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.

“My Biggest Goal Is to Make My Producers Happy” – Debut Director Raja Karuppasamy on ‘Modha Rathiri’

Raja Karuppasamy, who is making his directorial debut with Modha Rathiri, is embarking on a new journey in Tamil cinema after working in the journalism and media industry. The filmmaker has chosen an unconventional wedding as the backdrop for his debut, weaving together family relationships, humour and a series of unexpected situations.

From Journalism and Media to Cinema

Raja Karuppasamy’s experience in journalism and media gave him an opportunity to closely observe people and understand their different personalities. He says this experience proved valuable while developing the characters and selecting the right actors for the film.

“I strongly believe that almost 50 per cent of a film’s success lies in its casting. Once you find the right actor for the right character, half the work is done. That is why I paid special attention to selecting actors who would perfectly suit each character in Modha Rathiri,” says Raja Karuppasamy.

“The Trust Mythri Movie Makers Placed in Me Is a Huge Responsibility”

Speaking about making his directorial debut with a leading production house like Mythri Movie Makers, the filmmaker says the opportunity came with a great sense of responsibility.

“My biggest goal is to make my producers happy. When a reputed production house like Mythri Movie Makers places its trust in a debut director like me, it naturally comes with an even greater responsibility. Naveen Yerneni sir and Y. Ravi Shankar sir gave me tremendous confidence and creative freedom right from the beginning.

“I wanted to live up to the trust they placed in me while also creating a film that would give audiences an enjoyable theatrical experience,” he adds.

Why Rishikanth and Anishma?

Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar play the lead roles in Modha Rathiri, and according to the director, both actors were perfectly suited to their respective characters.

“The two central characters have completely contrasting personalities. On one side, there is the ‘Dubai Maappillai’, while on the other is a quiet and reserved daughter-in-law. Bringing these two contrasting personalities together through marriage is what makes the situations in the film interesting.

“Rishikanth and Anishma were extremely well suited for these roles. The other actors have also delivered performances that bring a natural energy to the film,” says Raja Karuppasamy.

A Story That Begins With a Wedding!

Modha Rathiri is not a conventional love or wedding drama. Instead, the film revolves around an unusual marriage and the unexpected situations that unfold after the wedding.

Two people with completely different personalities come together through marriage, setting off a series of events that affect not just the newly married couple but also their families and everyone around them.

Blending humour, family relationships and emotions, Modha Rathiri has been crafted as an entertaining theatrical experience for audiences across age groups.

The film features Rishikanth, Anishma Anilkumar, Chetan, A. Venkatesh, Bhagavathi Perumal, Abdul Lee, Shelly Kishore, Sangeetha Balan, Banupiriya, Sumithra Devi L., Varshini Karmekam, Karthikeyan, Velan and Kaushik Kapilan among others.

Bharath Sankar has composed the music, while Surendran Paranjothi has handled the cinematography. Ashok Arjun has taken care of the editing, with Poornima Ramasamy serving as the costume designer and A. Balumahendra as the art director.
