ஒரு காலத்தில் இளையராஜா சாரை நேரில் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்பது எனது பெரிய ஆசையாக இருந்தது. இன்று அவர் என்னுடைய திரைப்படத்திற்கு இசையமைக்கிறார் என்பது என் வாழ்நாளில் நான் அடைந்த மிகப்பெரிய சாதனைகளில் ஒன்றாக கருதுகிறேன்.

இந்தப் படம் திரைக்கு வரும் நாள் என் வாழ்க்கையின் மிக முக்கியமான நாளாக இருக்கும். இந்தப் படத்தில் கதிர் இருப்பதற்கும் ஒரு முக்கியமான காரணம் உள்ளது. நான் திரைத்துறையில் இயக்குநராக இருப்பதற்கே அவரும் ஒரு வகையில் முக்கிய காரணம். இந்தக் கதையை முழுமையாக கூறுவதற்கு முன்பே அவர் நடிக்க சம்மதித்தார்.

விழாவில் பேசிய இசைஞானி இளையராஜா, தனது சிறுவயது வாழ்க்கை, இசைப் பயணம் மற்றும் இசையுடனான தனது ஆன்மீகமான தொடர்பு குறித்து மனம் திறந்து பேசினார்.

அவர் கூறுகையில்,

“நீங்கள் அனைவரும் காடுமேடுகளில் பிறந்தவர்கள் என்று சொல்கிறீர்கள். நானும் இப்படியே கொஞ்சம் தூரம் சென்றால் என்னுடைய ஊருக்கு சென்றுவிடலாம். நானும் இந்த மண்ணில்தான் பிறந்தவன். காடுமேடுகளிலும், முள்ளுக்காடுகளிலும் வளர்ந்தவன்தான்.

அங்கிருந்து எப்படியோ இசையைக் கற்றுக்கொண்டு வாழ்க்கையில் முன்னேறினேன். இசையை சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க எனக்கு அருகில் யாரும் இல்லை. ஏதோ ஒரு தாகத்தோடு நானே இசையைக் கற்றுக்கொண்டேன்.

உலகின் மிகப்பெரிய இசை மேதைகள் பலரும் சிறுவயதிலேயே பியானோவை பார்த்து, கற்று வளர்ந்தவர்கள். ஆனால் நான் பியானோவைப் பார்ப்பதற்கே 27 வயதாகிவிட்டது.

அதனால் நான் எல்லோரையும் விட உயர்ந்தவன் என்று கூறவில்லை. ஆனால், இசை எனக்குள் தானாகவே வந்தது. எனக்குள் ஓடும் அந்த இசையின் ஜீவன் இருக்கிறதே, அது இதுவரை யாருக்கும் வந்ததில்லை; இனியும் வரப்போவதில்லை. இதை கர்வமாக சொல்கிறேன் என்று நீங்கள் நினைக்கலாம். ஆனால், சில விஷயங்களை கர்வத்தோடுதான் சொல்ல வேண்டும்” என்றார்.

தொடர்ந்து தனது இசை ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கம் குறித்து உணர்வுப்பூர்வமான ஒரு சம்பவத்தையும் இளையராஜா பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார்.

ஜெர்மனியில் வசித்து வந்த தமிழ் தம்பதியரின் கர்ப்பிணிப் பெண்ணுக்கு வயிற்றில் இருந்த குழந்தையின் அசைவுகள் நின்றுவிட்டதாகவும், உடனடியாக அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்ய மருத்துவர்கள் அறிவுறுத்தியதாகவும் அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

அந்த நேரத்தில் தனது இசையை அந்தப் பெண்ணுக்கு கேட்கச் செய்ததாகவும், இரண்டு நாட்கள் மருத்துவக் கண்காணிப்பில் இருந்த நிலையில், மூன்றாவது நாள் அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்கு முன்பு மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட பரிசோதனையில் குழந்தையின் உயிர் அசைவுகள் மீண்டும் தென்பட்டதாகவும் அவர் கூறினார்.

“அதற்காக நான் எந்தப் பெருமையையும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை. இசையமைப்பது என்னுடைய வேலை. அந்த சக்தியை கடவுள் எனக்கு கொடுத்திருக்கிறார். நான் என் வேலையை செய்கிறேன். எனக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட பணியை நான் தொடர்ந்து செய்து கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்.

அப்படிப்பட்ட இசையை இன்று மாரி செல்வராஜுடன் இணைந்து உருவாக்குகிறேன். அவர் இசையை உண்மையாகவே கொண்டாடக்கூடிய ஒருவர். இந்தப் படம் மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றி பெற வேண்டும். இதில் பணியாற்றும் அனைவருக்கும் நல்ல பெயரும், புகழும் கிடைக்க வேண்டும் என்று இறைவனை வேண்டிக்கொள்கிறேன்” என்றார்.

Mari Selvaraj Gets Emotional as Ilaiyaraaja Joins His Dream Project: “The Moment He Composed Music for Me, I Realised We Are Nothing”

The shooting of director Mari Selvaraj’s much-anticipated new film, Manjanathi, has officially commenced. The project has generated significant excitement among திரைப்பட ரசிகர்கள் as it marks the coming together of acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj and legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja.

Ever since the announcement of their collaboration, Manjanathi has been one of the most eagerly anticipated upcoming Tamil films. The film’s shooting was formally launched with a grand ceremony attended by the cast and technical crew.

Known for bringing stories rooted in the soil, social realities and human emotions to the screen, Mari Selvaraj is expected to explore another deeply personal and emotionally rooted narrative through Manjanathi. The filmmaker has revealed that the story also draws inspiration from his own life experiences.

Actor Kathir plays a key role in the film, alongside Priyanka Mohan, Kayadu Lohar, Poornima Ravi, Vidu, Kaaka Muttai fame Vignesh, Vaazhai fame Rahul and newcomer Raghavi, who makes her acting debut with this project.

Ilaiyaraaja Lights the Lamp and Gives the First Clap

The launch ceremony of Manjanathi was attended by the entire cast and technical team. Adding a special significance to the occasion, legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja lit the traditional ceremonial lamp and officially inaugurated the shooting.

He also gave the first clap for the opening shot, marking the formal beginning of the film’s production.

Speaking at the event, director Mari Selvaraj became emotional while sharing what it meant for him to have Ilaiyaraaja compose music for one of his films.

Mari Selvaraj said:

“I have never started any of my previous films with such grandeur and a traditional pooja ceremony. But I always wanted this film to begin in a special manner. The biggest reason for that is the presence of Ilaiyaraaja sir in this project.

There was a time when simply meeting Ilaiyaraaja sir in person was one of my greatest wishes. Today, the fact that he is composing music for my film is one of the biggest achievements of my life.

My wife Divya Selvaraj had also wished for a long time to meet Ilaiyaraaja sir. The fact that he is now working on a film produced by her is something we will never forget.

I have always carried confidence and pride in my hard work, reading and political understanding. But when Ilaiyaraaja sir woke up early in the morning to compose music for me and called me saying, ‘I am writing this for you, come,’ I realised at that moment that we are nothing.

His dedication and hard work, continuing across generations, is truly extraordinary. The pride and confidence of our Raja, who has made everything possible through his music, are beautiful, elevated and महान.”

Mari Selvaraj further said that he has immense confidence in Manjanathi and believes the film will emerge as a successful project.

“Usually, while writing a screenplay, I think about the actors, characters and scenes. But while writing this film, I constantly thought about how Raja sir would compose music for a particular moment.

The day this film reaches theatres will be one of the most important days of my life.

There is an important reason why Kathir is part of this film. He is also one of the reasons why I am here today as a filmmaker. He agreed to act in the film even before I had fully narrated the story to him.

Priyanka Mohan, Kayadu Lohar and all the other actors have very important roles in this film. The audience will understand their significance when they watch the film.

Manjanathi will also have elements inspired by my own life story. I believe it will be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved and for the audience as well,” he said.

“The Musical Life Within Me Has Never Existed in Anyone Else” – Ilaiyaraaja

Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja also delivered an emotional and inspiring speech at the launch event, reflecting on his childhood, his journey into music and his deep connection with his art.

He said:

“You all say that you were born and raised in the forests and rugged lands. If I travel a little further from here, I will reach my own home. I too was born in this soil. I grew up among forests, open lands and thorny bushes.

Somehow, I learned music and moved forward in life. There was no one around me to teach me music. With an intense thirst to learn, I taught myself.

The greatest musical geniuses in the world saw and learned the piano from a very young age. But I was already 27 years old when I first saw a piano.

I am not saying that I am greater than everyone else because of that. But music came naturally from within me. The life force of music that flows within me has never existed in anyone else and will never exist again. You may think I am saying this with pride. Yes, some things must be said with pride.”

Ilaiyaraaja also shared an emotional incident involving a Tamil couple living in Germany. He recalled that a pregnant woman had reportedly stopped feeling movements from the baby in her womb, following which doctors advised immediate surgery.

According to Ilaiyaraaja, his music was played for the woman while she remained under medical observation. After two days, when doctors examined her again before the planned surgery, they reportedly found signs of life and movement from the baby.

Speaking about the incident, Ilaiyaraaja said:

“I do not take any pride or credit for that. Composing music is my work. God has given me that ability and I simply do my work. This is what Saraswati has blessed me with.

Today, I am creating such music in collaboration with Mari Selvaraj. He is someone who truly celebrates my music.

I pray that this film becomes a great success and that everyone associated with it earns a good name and recognition.”

Ezhil Arasu K handles the cinematography, while Selva RK is in charge of editing. Ramu Thangaraj serves as the art director.

Dilip Subbarayan will choreograph the action sequences, while Sandy takes care of the dance choreography. Aegan Ekambaram is handling costume design.

The sound design is being handled by Suren G and Azhagiyakootthan S, while Ranjith Ambady is in charge of makeup. Hariharasudhan R will oversee the VFX work.
