‘John Doe’ Goes Beyond a Thriller to Explore Deep Human Emotions; Arjun Das-Starrer Set for November 13 Release!

Directed by Madhumita and starring Arjun Das, the upcoming Tamil film ‘John Doe’ is all set to hit theatres on November 13. Going beyond the conventional thriller format, the film explores childhood trauma, the darker side of the human mind, emotional relationships and several psychological elements. With its intriguing storyline and emotional depth, the film has generated considerable curiosity among audiences.

At the film’s press meet, the producer, director, cast and technical crew shared interesting insights into the making of the film, along with their personal experiences of being part of the project.

Producer Devineni Prasad revealed that ‘John Doe’ marks his first Tamil film production and shared an interesting story behind how the project came together. He explained that one of his colleagues met director Madhumita at a film festival, where they first heard about the script. Later, after watching ‘KD’ together, they decided to produce the film.

Actress Anupama Kumar emphasised that ‘John Doe’ is much more than just a thriller. She stated that the film has a strong emotional foundation and explores childhood trauma through several psychological elements. According to her, audiences will leave the theatre with certain scenes and memories lingering in their minds long after the film ends.

Actor Badava Gopi praised Arjun Das, describing him as an exceptionally talented performer and highlighting his voice as one of the film’s major strengths. He also expressed his gratitude to director Madhumita for bringing him back to acting through ‘KD’ in 2018, during a particularly difficult phase of his life. He appreciated her ability to bring out the best in actors and expressed happiness about being part of ‘John Doe’.

Actress Archana Chandhoke thanked director Madhumita for trusting her with a powerful character. She shared that the filmmaker taught her to focus not on the screen time or size of a role, but on the impact it creates. She also opened up about the emotional journey following her mother’s demise, revealing that she often wonders whether she is managing all the responsibilities her mother once took care of. Her heartfelt words added an emotional touch to the event.

One of the major technical challenges in the film was shooting underwater sequences. Cinematographer Preetha spoke about the experience, revealing that underwater cinematography was a completely new challenge for the team. The planning began during pre-production itself, with detailed shot divisions, visualisation and pre-visualisation. Although the process was complicated, the team successfully completed it with the assistance of trained scuba divers and proper preparation. She also spoke about the challenges she faced as a female technician in the film industry, recalling how questions about women’s ability to handle cameras and heavy equipment disappeared after she completed her first shot.

Actress Zaara Vineet highlighted the importance of teamwork in bringing ‘John Doe’ to life. She explained that every department complemented the others, from direction and cinematography to costume design and art direction. The colour palette used across the film was carefully designed to reflect its mood and emotions. She credited director Madhumita for bringing all these creative elements together and invited audiences to watch the film in theatres on November 13.

Sharing her special connection with Tamil Nadu, actress Srish Singh revealed that Chennai was the first city she travelled to outside Delhi. It was also where she experienced her first flight journey and saw the beach for the first time. She expressed happiness that her debut film had turned out to be a Tamil project, describing it as a special connection. She also thanked the producers for trusting her and director Madhumita for creating the character of Darshana.

Actress Sanchana Natarajan expressed her happiness about working with such a talented cast and crew. She revealed that ‘John Doe’ marks her second film with Arjun Das and said that playing police officers together once again was a memorable experience. Describing him as a friendly and supportive co-star, she recalled the experience of working continuously with the team for 35 days. She expressed confidence that the film’s emotional depth and psychological thriller elements would connect strongly with audiences.

Director Madhumita also spoke about the importance of teamwork behind the making of a film. She pointed out that disagreements between the direction and production departments are quite common on film sets, but both teams ultimately work towards the same goal of making the film successful.

As a gesture of appreciation, the producer felicitated the heads of departments from the direction team, while the director’s team honoured the production crew for their invaluable support. From arranging shooting locations and securing permissions to ensuring the smooth execution of everyday schedules, the production team played a crucial role throughout the filmmaking process. Madhumita explained that the gesture was intended to recognise and appreciate the contributions of both teams.

Actor Arjun Das expressed his gratitude to the producers and the entire team for believing in the film.
