கோயம்புத்தூரில் இயற்பியல் படித்த இளம் பெண் ஒருவர், குறும்படங்கள் மற்றும் மேடை நாடகங்கள் வழியாக நடிப்பின் மீது ஏற்பட்ட ஆர்வத்தால் தற்போது வெள்ளித்திரையை நோக்கி தனது பயணத்தை தொடங்கியுள்ளார். அவர் தான் நடிகை வர்ஷினி கார்மேகம். ‘மொத ராத்திரி’ திரைப்படத்தில் ரம்யா என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்துள்ள வர்ஷினி, தனது திரையுலக அனுபவங்கள், நடிப்பின் மீதான ஆர்வம் மற்றும் தனக்கு பிடித்த நடிகர்கள் குறித்து பகிர்ந்துள்ளார்.

இந்தி மொழியை நன்றாகப் படிக்கவும், சரியாக உச்சரிக்கவும் தெரியும் என்று கூறும் வர்ஷினி, ஒரு கலைஞருக்கு மொழி அறிவு என்பது கூடுதல் பலம் என்கிறார். குறிப்பாக ஓடிடி தளங்களின் வளர்ச்சியால் இன்று ஒரு நடிகருக்கான வாய்ப்புகள் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட மொழி அல்லது பிராந்தியத்துக்குள் மட்டுமே சுருங்கிவிடுவதில்லை என்றும் அவர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

“இந்தி தெரிந்திருப்பது ஒரு கலைஞருக்கு இன்னும் பல்வேறு வாய்ப்புகளை கொடுக்கும். குறிப்பாக ஓடிடி தளங்கள் வளர்ந்து வரும் இந்த காலத்தில், ஒரே மொழிக்குள் சுருங்கிவிடாமல் பல்வேறு கதாபாத்திரங்களையும் வாய்ப்புகளையும் தேடிச் செல்ல இது உதவும்” என்கிறார் வர்ஷினி.

“தனுஷ் எனக்கு மிகப்பெரிய இன்ஸ்பிரேஷன்!”

தற்கால தமிழ் நடிகர்களில் சாய் பல்லவியின் இயல்பான நடிப்பு தனக்கு மிகவும் பிடிக்கும் என்று கூறும் வர்ஷினி, நடிகர் தனுஷின் பன்முகத்தன்மை தன்னை மிகவும் கவர்ந்துள்ளதாக தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

Actress Varshini Karmagam, who plays the character of Ramya in the upcoming film Motha Raathiri, is gradually making her presence felt in the Tamil film industry. A Physics graduate from PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, Varshini developed an interest in acting through short films and stage performances before stepping into the world of cinema.

While academics remained an important part of her life, Varshini’s passion for the performing arts continued to grow. Her experiences in short films and on stage helped her understand the nuances of acting and gradually build her confidence in front of the camera.

Bharatanatyam Shaped Her Acting Journey

Bharatanatyam has played an important role in Varshini’s artistic journey. She believes that the classical dance form has given her a strong foundation in expressing emotions, maintaining discipline and understanding body language.

According to Varshini, acting is not limited to delivering dialogues. Facial expressions, body language and subtle gestures are equally important in bringing a character to life. Her Bharatanatyam training has helped her develop a better understanding of these aspects.

A Strong Connect With Hindi Cinema

Varshini also has a special interest in Hindi cinema. She considers acclaimed actresses such as Tabu, Rekha, Aishwarya Rai and Shobana as her role models for the way they bring characters to life through their performances.

She says that she can read and pronounce Hindi well and believes that knowing the language can open up more opportunities for an artist, particularly at a time when OTT platforms are creating opportunities across languages and regions.

“Knowing Hindi gives an artist access to many more opportunities. Especially with the growth of OTT platforms, it helps an actor explore diverse characters and opportunities instead of restricting themselves to a single language or industry,” says Varshini.

“Dhanush Is a Major Inspiration for Me”

Among contemporary actors, Varshini admires Sai Pallavi’s natural acting and Dhanush’s versatility and ability to completely transform himself for a character.

She says Dhanush’s dedication to adapting himself according to the demands of a role has been a major source of inspiration for her.

“Dhanush sir is a huge inspiration to me because of the way he completely transforms himself for a character. I also admire Sai Pallavi’s natural approach to acting,” says Varshini.

Apart from acting, Varshini is also passionate about music and says she is a fan of the music of Yuvan Shankar Raja and Ilaiyaraaja.

‘Motha Raathiri’ – A Significant Milestone

For Varshini, Motha Raathiri marks an important milestone in her journey as an actress. Having started with short films, she sees the project as an opportunity to take her acting career to the next level and reach a wider audience.
