டொராண்டோவில் தொடங்கிய ‘டோரதி’யின் சர்வதேசப் பயணம்!

TIFF 2026-ல் உலகளவில் முதல் திரையிடல்; எழுந்து நின்று பாராட்டிய பார்வையாளர்கள்

தமிழ் சினிமாவில் இருந்து உருவாகும் படங்கள் சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாக்களில் கவனம் பெறுவது புதிதல்ல. ஆனால், ஒரு திரைப்படத்தின் உலகளாவிய முதல் காட்சியே சர்வதேச அளவில் புகழ்பெற்ற டொராண்டோ சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாவில் நடைபெறுவது தனிச்சிறப்பு. அந்தப் பெருமையை தற்போது பெற்றிருக்கிறது இயக்குநர் கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜின் ‘டோரதி’.

ஜியோ ஸ்டுடியோஸ் வழங்கும், சிக்யா என்டர்டெயின்மென்ட் தயாரித்துள்ள ‘டோரதி’, TIFF 2026 திரைப்பட விழாவின் ‘சென்டர்பீஸ்’ பிரிவில் உலகளவில் முதல் முறையாகத் திரையிடப்பட்டது. டொராண்டோவில் உள்ள ஸ்காட்டியாபேங்க் திரையரங்கில் நடைபெற்ற இந்த சிறப்புக் காட்சிக்கு கிடைத்த வரவேற்பு படக்குழுவினருக்கு உற்சாகத்தை அளித்துள்ளது. படம் நிறைவடைந்ததும் பார்வையாளர்கள் எழுந்து நின்று பாராட்டியுள்ளனர்.

கடந்த பத்து ஆண்டுகளில் TIFF திரைப்பட விழாவில் உலகளவில் முதல் முறையாகத் திரையிடப்படும் முதல் இந்தியத் தமிழ் திரைப்படம் என்ற பெருமையையும் ‘டோரதி’ பெற்றுள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் சமகாலப் படைப்புகள் சர்வதேச திரைப்பட ரசிகர்களின் கவனத்தை ஈர்க்கும் வரிசையில் இப்படமும் இணைந்துள்ளது.

தனக்கு நெருக்கமான நிலப்பரப்பு மற்றும் கலாச்சாரப் பின்னணியில் இருந்து உருவான கதையை உலகளாவிய பார்வையாளர்களிடம் கொண்டு செல்லும் முயற்சியாகவே ‘டோரதி’யை கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜ் உருவாக்கியுள்ளார். நட்பு, பாரபட்சம், அடையாளம் மற்றும் மனிதர்களுக்கு இடையிலான உறவுகள் போன்ற அம்சங்களை மையமாகக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இப்படத்தின் கதை, குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு பிரதேசத்தைத் தாண்டி அனைவருக்குமான உணர்வுகளை பேசுகிறது.

TIFF முதல் காட்சியில் இயக்குநர் கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜுடன் நடிகர்கள் கீர்த்தி சுரேஷ், சனந்த், ரிஷிகாந்த் ஆகியோரும் கலந்து கொண்டனர். தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் குணீத் மோங்கா கபூர் மற்றும் அச்சின் ஜெயினும் நிகழ்வில் பங்கேற்றனர்.

‘டோரதி’ படத்தின் மற்றொரு முக்கிய ஈர்ப்பு அதன் இசை. படத்திற்கான அசல் பின்னணி இசை மற்றும் பாடல்களை இளையராஜா உருவாக்கியுள்ளார். படம் திரையரங்குகளில் வெளியாகும் முன்பே, ‘கல்யாண விருந்து’ மற்றும் ‘முத்துமணி’ ஆகிய பாடல்கள் ரசிகர்களிடம் பெரும் வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றுள்ளன. இரண்டு பாடல்களும் யூடியூபில் தலா ஒரு கோடி பார்வைகளைக் கடந்துள்ளதுடன், யூடியூப் இந்தியாவின் டாப் 5 டிரெண்டிங் இசை வீடியோக்களிலும் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன.

இதோடு நின்றுவிடாமல், ‘டோரதி’யின் இசை திரையரங்குக்கு வெளியேயும் தனிப் பயணத்தை மேற்கொண்டது. படத்தில் இடம்பெற்ற 18 பாடல்கள் மற்றும் இசைக்கோர்வைகள் அடங்கிய இசைத்தொகுப்பு சென்னையில் நேரடி இசை நிகழ்ச்சியாக அரங்கேற்றப்பட்டது. இமேஜ் ஆடிட்டோரியத்தில் நடைபெற்ற ‘டோரதி கான்சர்ட்’ நிகழ்ச்சியில் சுமார் 40 நிமிடங்கள் இசைக்கலைஞர்கள் தொடர்ந்து இப்படத்தின் இசையை நேரடியாக இசைத்தனர். இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கும் ரசிகர்களிடம் நல்ல வரவேற்பு கிடைத்தது.

‘டோரதி’ மூலம் TIFF உடனான தயாரிப்பாளர் குணீத் மோங்கா கபூரின் நீண்டகாலப் பயணமும் மற்றொரு கட்டத்தை எட்டியுள்ளது. கடந்த 15 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக TIFF உடன் தொடர்பில் இருக்கும் அவர், ‘தட் கேர்ள் இன் யெல்லோ பூட்ஸ்’, ‘பெட்லர்ஸ்’, ‘கேங்ஸ் ஆஃப் வாசேப்பூர்’, ‘தி லஞ்ச்பாக்ஸ்’, ‘மான்சூன் ஷூட்அவுட்’, ‘கில்’, ‘யெல்லோ பஸ்’ உள்ளிட்ட படங்களுடன் இந்த விழாவில் தொடர்ந்து பங்கேற்றுள்ளார்.

அந்த சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாப் பயணத்தில் தற்போது ‘டோரதி’யும் இணைந்துள்ளது. கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜ், ஜியோ ஸ்டுடியோஸ் மற்றும் சிக்யா என்டர்டெயின்மென்ட் இணைந்துள்ள இந்த கூட்டணி, தமிழ் சினிமாவின் ஒரு கதையை சர்வதேச பார்வையாளர்களிடம் கொண்டு சென்றிருக்கிறது.

TIFF-ல் உலகளாவிய முதல் திரையிடலை நிறைவு செய்துள்ள ‘டோரதி’, அடுத்ததாக செப்டம்பர் 25, 2026 அன்று உலகம் முழுவதும் திரையரங்குகளில் வெளியாகிறது.

கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜ் எழுதி இயக்கியுள்ள இப்படத்தில் கீர்த்தி சுரேஷ், சனந்த் மற்றும் ரிஷிகாந்த் ஆகியோர் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரங்களில் நடித்துள்ளனர். ஜோதி தேஷ்பாண்டே, குணீத் மோங்கா கபூர் மற்றும் அச்சின் ஜெயின் தயாரித்துள்ள இப்படம், தம்மம் ஃபிலிம்ஸ் நிறுவனத்துடன் இணைந்து உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஜியோ ஸ்டுடியோஸ் மற்றும் சிக்யா என்டர்டெயின்மென்ட் இப்படத்தை வழங்குகின்றன.

Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Dorothy’ Makes Its World Premiere at TIFF 2026

Tamil film receives a standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival

Tamil cinema has once again made its mark on the international festival circuit, with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s much-awaited film ‘Dorothy’ making its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026.

Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Sikhya Entertainment in association with Dhamma Films, ‘Dorothy’ was screened in TIFF’s prestigious Centrepiece section, which showcases notable films from across the world.

The film received an enthusiastic response from the audience at its world premiere, held at the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto. The screening concluded with the audience rising to their feet and applauding the film and its team.

With its premiere at TIFF 2026, ‘Dorothy’ also earns a special distinction — it is the first Indian Tamil film in the past decade to have its world premiere at the festival. The milestone puts Karthik Subbaraj’s latest work on an international platform even before its theatrical release.

The filmmaker has drawn inspiration from a setting and culture that he knows closely, while exploring themes that extend beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. Friendship, prejudice, identity and human connections form the emotional core of the film, giving ‘Dorothy’ a universal dimension.

Karthik Subbaraj attended the TIFF premiere along with the film’s lead actors Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth. Producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain were also present at the special screening.

Ilaiyaraaja’s music adds another dimension

One of the major highlights surrounding ‘Dorothy’ is its music. Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has created the film’s original songs and background score, adding another layer of anticipation ahead of the theatrical release.

The songs ‘Kalyana Virundhu’ and ‘Muthumani’ have already struck a chord with audiences. Both tracks have crossed 10 million views each on YouTube and have also featured among YouTube India’s Top 5 trending music videos.

The film’s music has also travelled beyond the screen. An exclusive ‘Dorothy Concert’ was held in Chennai, featuring all 18 songs and musical pieces from the film. Musicians performed the compositions live for around 40 minutes at the event, which received a warm response from the audience.

A new chapter in Sikhya Entertainment’s TIFF journey

The TIFF premiere also marks another chapter in producer Guneet Monga Kapoor’s long association with the festival. Over the past 15 years, several films associated with her have featured at TIFF, including That Girl in Yellow Boots (2010), Peddlers (2012), Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1 & Part 2 (2012), The Lunchbox (2013), Monsoon Shootout (2014), Kill (2023) and Yellow Bus (2023).

With ‘Dorothy’, that longstanding association now expands into Tamil cinema, bringing together Sikhya Entertainment, Karthik Subbaraj and Jio Studios for a new international cinematic journey.

Directed and written by Karthik Subbaraj, ‘Dorothy’ stars Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth in key roles. The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, in association with Dhamma Films.

Following its successful world premiere at TIFF, ‘Dorothy’ is set to hit theatres worldwide on September 25, 2026.
