தமிழ் சினிமாவில் கிராமத்து மண்வாசனையையும் உணர்வுப்பூர்வமான கதைகளையும் தனித்துவமாக சொல்லி வந்த இயக்குனர் வெற்றிவீரன் மகாலிங்கம், தனது அடுத்த படைப்பாக “பூ காய் கனி” என்ற திரைப்படத்தை இயக்கி வருகிறார். அரும்பு மீசை குறும்பு பார்வை, வெண்ணிலா வீடு, விசிறி போன்ற படங்களின் மூலம் கவனம் பெற்ற இவர், தற்போது முழுக்க முழுக்க 1986-ஆம் ஆண்டை பின்னணியாகக் கொண்ட ஒரு அழகிய கிராமத்து காதல் கதையை மூன்று பரிமாணங்களில் சொல்லும் முயற்சியில் இறங்கியுள்ளார்.
இந்தப் படத்தை பழையனூர் சந்தனம் பட கம்பெனி சார்பில் ராஜேஸ்வரி வெற்றிவீரன் தயாரிக்கிறார். சூட்கேஸ் திரைப்படத்தின் நிர்வாக தயாரிப்பை கவனித்த அனுபவத்துடன், இந்தப் படத்தையும் வித்தியாசமான முறையில் உருவாக்க திட்டமிட்டுள்ளார்.

Director Vetri Veeran Mahalingam’s New Film Introduces Fresh Faces and a Heartfelt Village Romance
Director Vetri Veeran Mahalingam, known for presenting emotional and rooted stories in Tamil cinema through films like Arumbu Meesai Kurumbu Paarvai, Vennila Veedu, and Visiri, is now gearing up with his next directorial venture titled “Poo Kaai Kani.”
The film is said to be a beautiful rural love story set in the year 1986, narrated through three emotional dimensions. Known for his poetic storytelling style, the director is once again bringing a tale filled with native flavor and heartfelt emotions.
The film is being produced by Rajeshwari Vetri Veeran under the banner Pazhaiyanur Sandhanam Film Company. Having previously handled executive production responsibilities for the film Suitcase, she now steps forward to produce this ambitious rural entertainer.
The title “Poo Kaai Kani” itself carries a poetic essence, and the team believes the film too will touch audiences with its emotionally rich screenplay and realistic storytelling.
The movie introduces KCP Mithun Chakravarthy as the lead hero. He has already gained attention through independent music albums such as Adiye Vellazhagi and Yen Ennai Kadhalicha. The team also notes that he has undergone extensive training required for a lead actor.
Actress Maanasi, daughter of actor Kottachi, makes her debut as the female lead through this film. Having appeared as a child artist in several successful films, she now takes the next big step in her acting career.
Another major highlight of the film is actor Santhosh Nambirajan, the lead of the internationally acclaimed film To Let, who plays an important character named Malaikallan.
Director Vetri Veeran Mahalingam’s son Raju Mahalingam, who has lent his voice in films like Pushpa, Raayan, and Jawan from the age of five, will appear in the film as the younger version of the hero. He had earlier acted in Dhanal starring Atharvaa.
Adding further authenticity to the film, more than ten actors trained at the renowned Koothu-P-Pattarai theatre group are part of the cast.
The technical crew includes cinematographer P.G. Muthiah, while music is composed by Dhanraj Manickam. Lyrics are penned by Karumathur Manimaran and Vetri Veeran Mahalingam.
National Award-winning editor V.J. Sabu Joseph, who won acclaim for Vallinam and has worked on several successful films, handles the editing for Poo Kaai Kani.
Though legendary art director P. Krishnamoorthy is no longer alive, his artistic legacy continues in this project. Having worked as his assistant art director for five films, director Vetri Veeran Mahalingam is now supervising the art direction of the film as a tribute to his mentor.
Sony Maran, who possesses extensive business experience across leading companies, is handling the executive production responsibilities.
Public Relations for the film is managed by Anand, while publicity designs are created by Selva.
The film’s co-producer is Guru Chinnasamy.
