Scam 2024 Actor Vineet Raina Reveals His Mother Was Targeted by a Digital Arrest Scam: ‘I Was Shooting…’

Every scam begins with a story designed to create fear, urgency and confusion. For actor Vineet Raina, digital fraud became a personal concern when his mother received a call from scammers impersonating police officers and claiming that her son had been taken into custody. Fortunately, she was aware of such scams and stayed calm, verifying the situation before it could escalate. The incident highlighted the importance of digital awareness, a message that lies at the heart of Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story, streaming exclusively on the Story TV app.

Vineet Raina plays Raj Thakur, a suspended police officer who continues to pursue a network of scammers while working within the boundaries of the law. Also starring Vidya Malavade as Priya Sharma and Pratik Sehajpal as Vicky Mandal, Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story explores the tactics used by digital scammers and the devastating consequences of cybercrime, while highlighting the courage it takes to fight back.

Sharing his real-life experience, Vineet said, “At the beginning of this year, my mother received a call from an unknown woman who claimed that I was shooting in Mumbai and that my phone was not working. Soon after, she received a WhatsApp video call where a man in uniform claimed that I had been taken into custody over a scam. My mother immediately tried calling me, but I was shooting at a place where network connectivity was poor. Thankfully, because I had already spoken to my parents about digital scams, AI-generated voices and faces, and how scammers operate, she did not panic. When I eventually called her back, I explained that it was a scam. She told me that had I not made her aware of these things, the situation could have been very different.”

Reflecting on the growing sophistication of such crimes, Vineet added, “Today, with AI becoming more advanced, scammers have very sophisticated ways to deceive people. They can use cloned voices, manipulated videos and fake identities to make their stories seem convincing. Anyone can fall victim to such scams, irrespective of how educated or aware they are. We need to spread awareness among our parents, families and loved ones, and encourage people to verify information before reacting. Staying calm, avoiding suspicious links and confirming such claims directly with the person concerned can make a crucial difference.”
