கடலில் காசு தேடும் மனிதனின் கண்ணீர்க் கதை… ‘என்ன விலை’யில் தவசிமுத்துவாக கருணாஸ்!

“நான் ஏற்று நடித்த கதாபாத்திரங்களிலேயே தவசிமுத்து மிகவும் சவாலானது” – நடிகர் கருணாஸ்

தமிழ் சினிமாவில் நகைச்சுவை நடிகராக அறிமுகமாகி, பின்னர் குணச்சித்திரம், கதாநாயகன் என தனது நடிப்புப் பயணத்தை பல்வேறு பரிமாணங்களில் விரிவுபடுத்தியவர் நடிகர் கருணாஸ். திரையுலகில் 25 ஆண்டுகளை நிறைவு செய்துள்ள அவர், ஒவ்வொரு காலகட்டத்திலும் தனக்குக் கிடைக்கும் கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கு தனித்த அடையாளத்தை உருவாக்கி வருகிறார். அந்த வரிசையில், அவரது திரைப்பயணத்தில் மற்றுமொரு வித்தியாசமான முயற்சியாக உருவாகியிருக்கிறது ‘என்ன விலை’ திரைப்படம்.

தேசிய விருது பெற்ற திரைப்பட இயக்குநர் சஜீவ் பழூர் எழுதி இயக்கியுள்ள இப்படத்தில், இதுவரை அதிகம் பேசப்படாத ஒரு வாழ்வாதாரத்தையும், அதைச் சுற்றி வாழும் எளிய மனிதர்களின் வாழ்க்கைப் போராட்டத்தையும் மையமாக வைத்து கதை சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது.

ராமேஸ்வரம் அருகே கடலில் பக்தர்கள் காணிக்கையாக வீசும் நாணயங்களை மீட்டு அதன்மூலம் தனது குடும்பத்தை நடத்தி வரும் தவசிமுத்து என்ற கதாபாத்திரத்தில் கருணாஸ் நடித்துள்ளார். பெயருக்கு சாதாரணமான தொழிலாகத் தெரிந்தாலும், அதன் பின்னால் இருக்கும் ஆபத்துகள், அவமானங்கள், சமூகப் பார்வை, குடும்பச் சுமைகள் என பல்வேறு பிரச்சினைகளை இப்படம் பேசுகிறது.

கடலுக்குள் இறங்கி நாணயங்களைத் தேடும் தவசிமுத்துவின் வாழ்க்கை, ஒரு கட்டத்தில் எதிர்பாராத பிரச்சினையைச் சந்திக்கிறது. தனது வாழ்வாதாரத்தையும், கண்ணியத்தையும் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்வதற்காக அவர் நடத்தும் போராட்டம், பின்னர் முக்கியமான சட்டப் போராட்டமாக மாறுகிறது. ஒரு சாதாரண மனிதனின் வாழ்க்கையில் நிகழும் இந்த அசாதாரண திருப்பமே படத்தின் மையக்கருவாக அமைந்துள்ளது.

‘என்ன விலை’ படத்தில் நடித்த அனுபவம் குறித்து நடிகர் கருணாஸ் கூறுகையில்,

“தவசிமுத்து கதாபாத்திரம் என்னிடம் முற்றிலும் மாறுபட்ட அணுகுமுறையை எதிர்பார்த்தது. அவரது வாழ்க்கையும், வாழ்வாதாரமும் கடலுடன் மிகவும் நெருக்கமாகப் பின்னிப் பிணைந்திருக்கிறது. அவர் சந்திக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு சூழ்நிலையும் படிப்படியாக அவரை மிகப்பெரிய போராட்டத்துக்குள் அழைத்துச் செல்கிறது.

இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்தை எனக்கு மிகவும் சிறப்பானதாக மாற்றியது, தவசிமுத்து கடந்து செல்லும் உணர்வுப்பூர்வமான பயணம்தான். ஒரு நடிகராக அந்த உணர்வுகளை உள்வாங்கி வெளிப்படுத்துவது மிகப்பெரிய சவாலாக இருந்தது. நான் இதுவரை ஏற்று நடித்த கதாபாத்திரங்களில் தவசிமுத்து மிகவும் சவாலான கதாபாத்திரங்களில் ஒன்று” என்றார்.

மேலும் அவர் கூறும்போது,

“‘என்ன விலை’ திரைப்படம் வெறும் ஒரு மனிதனின் வாழ்க்கைக் கதையாக மட்டும் இல்லாமல், வாழ்வாதாரம், கண்ணியம், சுயமரியாதை ஆகியவற்றுடன் ஒரு மனிதன் வாழ்வதற்கான உரிமையைப் பற்றி பேசுகிறது. இதுபோன்ற உணர்வுகளை மையமாகக் கொண்ட கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்ததில் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சி” என்றார்.

சமூகக் கருத்தை அழுத்தமாகப் பேசும் இயக்குநர்

இப்படத்தின் இயக்குநர் சஜீவ் பழூர் குறித்து கருணாஸ் கூறியதாவது:

“சஜீவ் பழூர் மிகவும் தெளிவான பார்வையுடன் இந்தக் கதையை எழுதியிருக்கிறார். உணர்வுப்பூர்வமான கதையின் மையத்தை எந்த இடத்திலும் சமரசம் செய்யாமல், அதே நேரத்தில் வலுவான சமூகக் கருத்தையும் படத்தில் பதிவு செய்துள்ளார். கதாபாத்திரங்கள் மற்றும் அவை சார்ந்த உலகத்தைப் பற்றிய அவரது புரிதல், படப்பிடிப்பு அனுபவத்தை எனக்கு மிகவும் சுவாரஸ்யமானதாக மாற்றியது.”

ராமேஸ்வரம் கடற்கரையை ஒட்டிய பகுதிகளில் பக்தர்கள் காணிக்கையாக கடலில் வீசும் நாணயங்களை மீட்டெடுத்து, அதனைத் தனது வாழ்வாதாரமாகக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒருவரின் வாழ்க்கையை மையமாக வைத்து உருவாகியுள்ள இப்படம், அந்தத் தொழிலின் பின்னணியில் இருக்கும் மனிதர்களின் வாழ்க்கையைப் பதிவு செய்கிறது.

“Tavasimuthu Was One of the Most Challenging Roles I’ve Played”: Karunas on ‘Enna Vile’

Rameswaram’s coin diver and his fight for dignity take centre stage in Sajeev Pazhoor’s upcoming film

Actor Karunas, who has completed 25 successful years in the Tamil film industry, continues to explore diverse characters and unconventional stories. Known for bringing a distinct identity to every role he takes on, Karunas is now set to appear in a challenging and emotionally demanding character in ‘Enna Vile’, written and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sajeev Pazhoor.

The film revolves around Tavasimuthu, a man living near Rameswaram who makes a living by retrieving coins thrown into the sea by devotees as offerings. What appears to be a simple livelihood gradually unfolds into a story of survival, dignity, self-respect and the struggle for one’s right to earn a living.

Karunas on playing Tavasimuthu

Speaking about his experience of working on the film, Karunas said that Tavasimuthu demanded an approach very different from the characters he had played before.

“Tavasimuthu required a completely different approach from me. His life and livelihood are deeply connected to the sea. The circumstances he faces gradually push him into a much bigger struggle. What made this character special for me was the emotional journey he goes through.”

The actor added that the film’s core themes of livelihood, dignity and the right to live with self-respect made the role particularly meaningful for him.

“As an actor, I was very happy to take up a character that allowed me to express these emotions. Tavasimuthu was certainly one of the most challenging characters I have played.”

A story that moves from the sea to a legal battle

‘Enna Vile’ explores the life of a man who depends on retrieving coins from the sea to support himself and his family. His struggle to protect his livelihood eventually develops into a significant legal battle.

Rather than portraying the protagonist merely as a man struggling financially, the film attempts to examine the larger questions surrounding dignity, self-respect and the rights of ordinary people.

The story is set against the coastal landscape near Rameswaram and brings attention to a livelihood that has rarely been explored on screen.

Karunas praises Sajeev Pazhoor’s vision

Speaking about director Sajeev Pazhoor, Karunas said:

“Sajeev Pazhoor has written this story with a very clear vision. Without compromising on the emotional core of the narrative, he has also brought out a strong social message. His understanding of the characters and the world they belong to made the shooting experience very interesting for me.”

Karunas also spoke positively about working with Nimisha Sajayan and the rest of the cast.

“Working with Nimisha Sajayan and the other actors was a wonderful experience. The film deals very strongly with an ordinary man facing extraordinary circumstances. I believe audiences will be able to relate ‘Enna Vile’ to their own lives and to the struggles of people around them.”

Written and directed by Sajeev Pazhoor, ‘Enna Vile’ is produced by Jithesh V under the banner of Kalamaya Films.

With an unconventional premise and a socially relevant narrative, ‘Enna Vile’ promises to present the struggles of an ordinary man from an unusual perspective. The film is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on September 17.
