One Man Against an Entire Society! Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani and Divya Dutta’s ‘Last Man in Tower’ to Premiere on ZEE5 on November 6

In a rapidly changing city like Mumbai, redevelopment has become a part of everyday life. Old buildings make way for modern structures, promising residents better facilities and a fresh start. But what happens when someone refuses to give up the home they have lived in for years? Is a house merely a physical space, or does it hold memories, relationships and a lifetime of emotions? These questions form the heart of ‘Last Man in Tower’, an intriguing drama thriller starring Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani and Divya Dutta.

The film is all set to make its digital premiere on Hindi ZEE5 on November 6, 2026.

A lone battle to protect his home

Set in an old residential building in Mumbai, the story follows Yogesh Mishra, a retired physics teacher played by Manoj Bajpayee. When a redevelopment proposal is introduced to demolish the existing building and replace it with a modern residential complex, most of the residents agree to the plan, attracted by the financial benefits and the promise of better living conditions.

However, Yogesh is the only resident who refuses to give his consent. For him, the apartment is much more than a property. It is a place filled with memories, emotional attachments and years of familiarity. No amount of money or the promise of a new home can convince him to walk away from the place he loves.

His decision gradually turns him into an obstacle for the other residents. People who once shared friendly relationships with him begin to see him as someone standing in the way of their future. What starts as a disagreement over redevelopment soon develops into a tense conflict that isolates Yogesh from the very community he once belonged to.

Three powerful characters with different perspectives

Manoj Bajpayee plays Yogesh Mishra, a man determined to stand by his principles despite growing pressure from those around him. His character reflects the emotional struggle between personal convictions, attachment to one’s home and the loneliness that comes with standing alone.

Divya Dutta plays Sangeeta Puri, a woman who supports the redevelopment project because she wants to secure a better future for her son, who has special needs. Her personal circumstances and aspirations put her directly at odds with Yogesh.

Boman Irani plays Dharmen Shah, the property developer spearheading the redevelopment project. With his persuasive approach and calm demeanour, he adds another dimension to the growing conflict.

With each character driven by different needs and priorities, the film avoids presenting the conflict as a simple battle between right and wrong. Instead, it allows viewers to understand the motivations behind everyone’s decisions.

Is a home just four walls or a lifetime of memories?

Redevelopment is a familiar subject in metropolitan cities like Mumbai. While new residential projects promise better amenities, financial benefits and improved living standards, they can also mean leaving behind familiar surroundings, relationships and memories built over several decades.

‘Last Man in Tower’ explores this conflict between progress and emotional attachment. What happens when one person’s decision affects the future of an entire community? Should the majority’s decision always prevail? Can money compensate for everything that people are forced to leave behind?

By exploring these questions, the film offers a closer look at middle-class aspirations, changing urban lifestyles and the complicated nature of human relationships.

Based on Aravind Adiga’s acclaimed novel

Directed by Ben Rekhi, ‘Last Man in Tower’ is based on the novel of the same name by acclaimed author Aravind Adiga. The film is produced by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, with Sooni Taraporevala credited for the screenplay.

Speaking about the film, director Ben Rekhi described the experience of bringing the story to the screen as deeply fulfilling. He also expressed his happiness at working with two accomplished actors, Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani, who share the screen for the first time in this film. According to him, the story carries an important message about protecting families and communities during challenging times.

Manoj Bajpayee said that what attracted him to the role of Yogesh Mishra was the complexity of the character. He found the ambiguity surrounding Yogesh’s decisions particularly interesting, as the character raises questions about whether standing firmly by one’s beliefs is always the right thing to do. He also highlighted how the film explores the human emotions behind urban redevelopment and the uncertainty of leaving behind familiar places.

Divya Dutta shared that she was drawn to the film because it examines human behaviour without dividing characters into simple categories of right and wrong. She explained that Sangeeta’s actions are shaped by her personal circumstances and her desire to create a better future for her family.

Producer Rana Daggubati described ‘Last Man in Tower’ as a deeply human story that examines the choices people make and the things they find difficult to let go of. He also praised the performances of the lead cast, particularly Manoj Bajpayee, Divya Dutta and Boman Irani.

When and where to watch ‘Last Man in Tower’?

Bringing together themes of family, relationships, personal convictions, financial aspirations and urban redevelopment, ‘Last Man in Tower’ promises an emotionally layered story with a compelling social backdrop.
