உண்மைச் சம்பவத்தை மையமாகக் கொண்டு இயக்குநர் வீரமுருகன் உருவாக்கியுள்ள புதிய திரைப்படம் – விரைவில் திரையரங்குகளில்!
தென் மாவட்டத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியில் இன்றளவும் மறைமுகமாக கடைப்பிடிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் ஒரு சமூகக் கட்டுப்பாடு… அந்தக் கட்டுப்பாட்டால் ஒரு பகுதி மக்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்கள்… அதனால் உருவாகும் சமூக விளைவுகள்… இவற்றை மையமாக வைத்து உருவாகியுள்ள திரைப்படம் ‘பனங்காட்டான்’.
சமூகத்தில் பேசப்படாமல் இருக்கும் பல்வேறு விஷயங்களை திரைப்படங்களின் வாயிலாக வெளிச்சத்திற்குக் கொண்டு வரும் இயக்குநர் வீரமுருகன், ‘கிடுகு’, ‘கந்தன்மலை’ உள்ளிட்ட படங்களைத் தொடர்ந்து இப்படத்தை இயக்கியுள்ளார்.

‘பனங்காட்டான்’ திரைப்படம் குறித்து இயக்குநர் வீரமுருகன் கூறுகையில்,
“தென் மாவட்டத்தில் நடைபெற்ற உண்மைச் சம்பவம் ஒன்றைத் தழுவி இப்படத்தின் கதையை உருவாக்கியிருக்கிறேன்.
ஒரு முக்கியமான பகுதியில் குறிப்பிட்ட சமூகத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மக்கள் தங்களுக்கென்று சில கட்டுப்பாடுகளை வைத்துக்கொண்டு, அவற்றை பல ஆண்டுகளாக மறைமுகமாக கடைப்பிடித்து வருகின்றனர். அந்தப் பகுதிக்குள் வெளியில் இருந்து யாரும் வரக்கூடாது, அங்கிருந்து யாரும் வெளியே செல்லக்கூடாது என்பது போன்ற கட்டுப்பாடுகள் அங்கு நிலவி வருகின்றன.
அத்தகைய கட்டுப்பாடு எப்படி உருவானது? அதன் பின்னணி என்ன? அது அப்பகுதி மக்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் எத்தகைய தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது? தனிமைப்படுத்தப்பட்ட வாழ்க்கை சமூகத்தில் என்ன மாதிரியான விளைவுகளை உருவாக்குகிறது? என்பதைக் கேள்விகளாக முன்வைத்து, அதற்கான பதில்களைச் சொல்லும் வகையில் ‘பனங்காட்டான்’ திரைப்படம் உருவாகியுள்ளது.
இது ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட சம்பவத்தை மட்டும் பதிவு செய்யும் படமாக இல்லாமல், அந்தச் சம்பவத்தின் பின்னணியில் இருக்கும் சமூகச் சூழலையும் மக்களின் வாழ்க்கையையும் பேசும் படமாக இருக்கும்” என்றார்.
பாலமேடு முதல் மூணாறு வரை நடைபெற்ற படப்பிடிப்பு
படத்தின் கதை நிகழும் தென் மாவட்டப் பகுதிகளின் இயல்பான பின்னணியை திரையில் பதிவு செய்யும் வகையில் பல்வேறு இடங்களில் படப்பிடிப்பு நடைபெற்றுள்ளது.
பாலமேடு, தூத்துக்குடி, ராமநாடு, மூணாறு உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் ‘பனங்காட்டான்’ படத்தின் முக்கிய காட்சிகள் படமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

ரைஸ்மேக்கர்ஸ் புரொடக்ஷன் சார்பில் சந்திரசேகரன் தயாரித்துள்ள இப்படத்தில் அப்புக்குட்டி, காதல் சுகுமார், அரிசி கணேசன், சேரன் ராஜ், கனிமொழி, பீட்டர் சரவணன், மெய் ராஜன், விமல் ராஜன், மாஸ்டர் ரோஹித், செம்பட்டி கருப்பையா, திருச்சி சுரேஷ் குமார் உள்ளிட்டோர் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரங்களில் நடித்துள்ளனர்.

Director Veeramurugan’s ‘Panangattan’ draws from a real-life incident in southern Tamil Nadu; First Look poster unveiled
A social issue that has allegedly remained hidden from public attention for years forms the core of ‘Panangattan’, an upcoming Tamil film based on a real incident that took place in a region of southern Tamil Nadu.
Produced by Chandrasekaran under the banner of RiceMakers Production, the film is directed by Veeramurugan, who has previously helmed films such as Kidugu and Kandhanmalai, known for generating discussions and strong reactions among audiences and political circles.
A story inspired by a real incident
Speaking about the film, director Veeramurugan revealed that Panangattan is inspired by a real incident from southern Tamil Nadu.
According to the director, in a particular area, people belonging to a specific community have been following certain unwritten restrictions for many years. Among these restrictions is the belief that outsiders should not enter the area and that people from within should not leave it.
The film explores what these restrictions are, how they came into existence, and the impact they have on the lives of the people and society at large.
“This film is based on a real incident that happened in southern Tamil Nadu. In an important region, people belonging to a particular community have been following certain restrictions of their own, even today, though these practices are largely followed indirectly.
The film sheds light on what these restrictions are and the kind of consequences they create in society. Rather than focusing only on an individual incident, Panangattan attempts to present the social circumstances and human stories surrounding it,” said director Veeramurugan.
Shoot across Palamedu, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Munnar
The film was shot across several locations, including Palamedu, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Munnar, to capture the natural landscape and atmosphere required for the story.
The makers are planning to release Panangattan in theatres soon.
A strong ensemble cast
The film features Appukutty, Kadhal Sugumar, Arisi Ganesan, Cheran Raj, Kanimozhi, Peter Saravanan, Mei Rajan, Vimal Rajan, Master Rohith, Sembatti Karuppaiah and Trichy Suresh Kumar in prominent roles.
Sundar N has composed the music, while Jayakumar Thangavel is handling the cinematography. Panneerselvam is in charge of the editing.
Director Veeramurugan has also penned the story, screenplay and dialogues.
