This powerful premise forms the heart of ‘The Grand Master’, an upcoming Tamil film that explores the emotional journey of a mother who stands firmly behind her son’s ambition.
Produced by Velayutham under the banner of V6 Film Pvt Ltd, the film is written and directed by debutant filmmaker Vetrichchezhiyan. The film’s first look has now been unveiled and is attracting attention among audiences and members of the film industry.
Rather than following a conventional commercial template, ‘The Grand Master’ focuses on the lives of people from the marginalised sections of society and the struggles they face while pursuing their dreams.
A Mother Who Turns Her Son’s Dream Into Her Mission
At the centre of the story is a mother who works as a sanitation worker to support her family. Despite the hardships of everyday life, she dreams of seeing her son excel in chess and achieve the prestigious title of Grandmaster.
With financial difficulties, social inequalities and numerous obstacles standing in their way, the mother refuses to give up. Her determination becomes the driving force behind her son’s journey.
The film explores how far a mother can go to transform her child’s dream into reality and the challenges the family encounters along the way.
Through the world of chess, the film attempts to draw a parallel with life itself — where every decision, every move and every opportunity can change the course of the game.
Vetrichchezhiyan Makes His Directorial Debut
Vetrichchezhiyan, who has previously worked as an assistant director with acclaimed filmmakers H. Vinoth, Seenu Ramasamy and S. P. Jananathan, makes his directorial debut with ‘The Grand Master’.
The filmmaker has chosen to begin his journey with a socially relevant story that highlights the aspirations, struggles and resilience of people from the marginalised sections of society.
First Look Reflects the Film’s Emotional Core
The first-look poster offers a glimpse into the emotional world of the film.
Set against a backdrop filled with chess squares, the poster features the mother and son in contrasting emotional states. The young boy is seen holding a chess piece and looking upwards with hope and determination, while the mother’s expression reflects pain, concern and the weight of the struggles surrounding their lives.
Moving chess pieces surround the characters, while the lower portion of the poster features the mother travelling with her son on a bicycle. Together, these elements symbolically capture the family’s journey, their hardships and their determination to move towards a better future.
A Promising Cast and Technical Team
The film features Aparnathi, Lingesh, Suresh Menon, Ashwin, Tamilarasi, Anbu, Mano Madurai and Vichithran, among others, in important roles.
Arjun Ravi and Gnanasekar R.S. are handling the cinematography, while Dinesh Antony is composing the music. Ranjith C.K. is responsible for the editing, and Raghavan Sanjeevi is handling the art direction.
Post-Production Work Nears Completion
The film has been shot across several locations, including Dindigul, Madurai, Tada and Chennai.
With the shooting completed and post-production work nearing completion, the team is currently involved in the final stages of the project.
