For actor Abdul Lee, the journey into cinema began with comedy sketches on YouTube. Today, he has gradually made his presence felt across Tamil films and web series, with his performance as Kannan in Motha Raathiri becoming one of his recent highlights.

Interestingly, Abdul Lee says that legendary comedian Goundamani and veteran actor-director T. K. Balachandran, popularly known as Balaiah, are among his biggest inspirations. What fascinates him most about their performances is their ability to bring shades of negativity even into comic characters, while still making audiences laugh and enjoy the scenes.

The name ‘Lee’ in Abdul Lee’s name also has an interesting story behind it. Inspired by two legendary personalities, Stan Lee and Spike Lee, he decided to add ‘Lee’ to his own name.

Abdul Lee began his acting journey through YouTube sketch videos, where he got the opportunity to develop and showcase his comic timing and acting skills. The experience eventually paved the way for opportunities in films and digital entertainment.

A former student of Velammal School, Abdul Lee holds a B.E. degree and has acted in more than 35 films so far. His recent credits include G.D.N. and Gatta Kusthi 2, apart from web series such as Heartbeat and Local Times.

His role as Kannan in Motha Raathiri has also brought him a memorable compliment from actor Soori. After watching the film, Soori reportedly told him, “When I saw you on screen, you reminded me of my uncle.” Abdul Lee says that receiving such appreciation from Soori was particularly special to him.

Abdul Lee has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the producers of Mythri Movie Makers and director Raja Karuppusamy for giving him the opportunity to be part of Motha Raathiri and placing their trust in him.

He also shares a long-standing friendship with the film’s lead actor Rishikanth, with the two having known each other for more than 13 years. According to Abdul Lee, Rishikanth’s support during the making of the film was something he will always remember.
