Chennai, August 2026: Tamil cinema is witnessing an increasing number of ambitious films that explore unconventional genres and push the boundaries of visual storytelling. One such highly anticipated project is ‘Immortal’, a fantasy thriller starring GV Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar in the lead roles. The grand pre-release event of ‘Immortal’ was recently held in the presence of the film’s cast and crew, industry personalities and special guests. A Three-Year Journey to Create ‘Immortal’

Recalling the beginning of the project, producer Arunkumar Dhanasekaran revealed that when director Mariyappan Chinna first narrated the story to him, the scale of the concept and its visual requirements immediately reminded him of a Hollywood film.

The project involved extensive CGI and visual creation work. Determined to bring his vision to life, the director spent nearly seven months working with an overseas studio to develop the film’s visual model and presented it to the producer.

The confidence and conviction shown by the debutant director eventually convinced Arunkumar Dhanasekaran to take up the ambitious project.

A lengthy pre-production process was undertaken before filming began, with the team meticulously planning the visual effects, CGI-heavy sequences, action portions and other key elements of the film.

According to the team, ‘Immortal’ has taken more than three years of dedicated work from its initial development to its final stages.

GV Prakash Kumar on Entering a Different Genre

Speaking at the event, actor and composer GV Prakash Kumar described ‘Immortal’ as a distinctly different film that explores the vampire genre in a way that is relatively new to Indian cinema.

He revealed that the team had spent nearly a year working on the CGI and monster-related sequences. The film also incorporates survival thriller elements, with the story revolving around a character who has lived for nearly 4,000 years.

GV Prakash Kumar said he was immediately excited when director Mariyappan Chinna narrated the story, as the concept had the scale and ambition of a Hollywood production.

He also stressed that ‘Immortal’ is not a copy of any existing film and is instead an attempt to offer audiences an entirely new cinematic experience.

Kayadu Lohar Takes Up a Challenging Role

Kayadu Lohar plays the female lead in ‘Immortal’. The team discovered her through social media and felt that she would be an ideal fit for the character.

Director Mariyappan Chinna revealed that Kayadu Lohar put in considerable effort for the role. Despite not knowing even a word of Tamil when she joined the project, she worked hard to understand her dialogues, their meaning and pronunciation.

Her dedication extended to the challenging shooting conditions as well, with the actress delivering what the team believes will be one of the notable performances of the film.

GV Prakash Kumar also praised Kayadu Lohar’s performance and expressed confidence that her fans would enjoy watching her in the film.

Challenging Action and Climax Sequences

Several portions of ‘Immortal’ were filmed under challenging circumstances, particularly the action sequences and the climax.

The actors and technicians reportedly worked extensively to bring these demanding portions to life. Producer Arunkumar Dhanasekaran said that the safety and comfort of the artistes remained a priority throughout the shoot, with the necessary facilities provided to ensure a secure working environment.

According to Sam C.S., there are certain films where one can sense during the making itself that the project is going to be something unique. He said ‘Immortal’ belongs to that category for him.

He also praised producer Arunkumar Dhanasekaran for his energy, positivity and unwavering belief in the team. Sam C.S. highlighted the producer’s commitment to creating a quality film and his support for the entire crew.
