இலங்கைத் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் வரலாற்றில் புதிய அத்தியாயத்தைத் திறக்கும் வகையில் உருவாகியுள்ள ‘அந்தோனி’ திரைப்படம், 2027ஆம் ஆண்டுக்கான ஆஸ்கார் விருது விழாவின் சிறந்த சர்வதேச திரைப்படப் பிரிவிற்கான தேர்வுப் பயணத்தை ஆரம்பித்துள்ளதாக படக்குழுவினர் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
இசைஞானி இளையராஜாவின் இசையில் உருவான முதல் இலங்கைத் தமிழ் திரைப்படம் என்ற தனித்துவமான பெருமையைப் பெற்றுள்ள ‘அந்தோனி’, தற்போது சர்வதேச திரைப்பட அரங்கின் கவனத்தை நோக்கி நகர்ந்துள்ளது.
ஓசை பிலிம்ஸ் நிறுவனத்தின் சார்பில் கலைவளரி சக இரமணதாஸ் மற்றும் சுகந்தினி இரமணதாஸ் ஆகியோர் தயாரித்துள்ள இத்திரைப்படத்தில் கயல் வின்சன்ட், TJ. பானு, சுதர்சன் ரவீந்திரன், செளமி முனசிங்க, நிழல்கள் ரவி, அருள்தாஸ் உள்ளிட்ட பலர் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரங்களில் நடித்துள்ளனர்.
சுகிர்தன் கிறிஸ்துராஜா மற்றும் ஜெனோசன் ராஜேஸ்வர் ஆகியோர் இணைந்து இயக்கியுள்ள ‘அந்தோனி’ திரைப்படம் மூன்று மொழிகளில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அண்மையில் உலகின் பல பகுதிகளில் திரையரங்குகளில் வெளியான இப்படம், பார்வையாளர்களிடையே வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றுள்ளதாக படக்குழு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
திரையரங்கு வெளியீட்டைத் தொடர்ந்து, இந்தியாவிலும் திரைப்படம் பல்வேறு ஓடிடி தளங்களில் வெளியாகியுள்ளது. Amazon Prime Video, OTT Plus, Shortflix, Tentkotta, Roopahala உள்ளிட்ட தளங்களில் இப்படத்தைப் பார்வையிடும் வாய்ப்பு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இலங்கைத் தமிழ் சினிமாவிலிருந்து உருவாகியுள்ள ஒரு திரைப்படம், உலகின் மிகப்பெரிய திரைப்பட விருது மேடைகளில் ஒன்றான ஆஸ்கார் நோக்கி நகர்வது திரையுலகில் கவனத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. குறிப்பாக, இளையராஜாவின் இசை பங்களிப்புடன் உருவாகியுள்ளமை இப்படத்தின் மீதான எதிர்பார்ப்பை மேலும் அதிகரித்துள்ளது.
‘அந்தோனி’ திரைப்படத்தின் ஆஸ்கார் பயணம், இலங்கைத் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் படைப்புகளை சர்வதேச அளவில் அறிமுகப்படுத்துவதற்கான புதிய வாய்ப்புகளை உருவாக்குமா என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்பும் தற்போது திரையுலக வட்டாரங்களில் உருவாகியுள்ளது.

Ilaiyaraaja’s music adds historic significance as the Sri Lankan Tamil film enters the selection process for the 2027 Oscars
COLOMBO: Sri Lankan Tamil cinema has taken a significant step onto the international stage with ‘Anthony’, a film that has begun its journey towards consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards.
The film carries a distinctive place in Sri Lankan Tamil cinema as the first Sri Lankan Tamil film to feature music by renowned Indian music composer and maestro Ilaiyaraaja.
Produced by Kalaivalari Saha Ramanadas and Suganthini Ramanadas under the banner of Osai Films, ‘Anthony’ features an ensemble cast including Kayal Vincent, TJ Banu, Sudharsan Ravindran, Sowmi Munasinghe, Nizhalgal Ravi and Aruldoss, among others.
The film is directed by Sugirthan Christhuraja and Genosan Rajeshwar and has been made in three languages.
Following its theatrical release in several parts of the world, ‘Anthony’ has reportedly received a positive response from audiences. The film has also subsequently been released on several OTT platforms in India, including Amazon Prime Video, OTT Plus, Shortflix, Tentkotta and Roopahala.
According to the filmmakers, ‘Anthony’ has been submitted through the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka to the selection committee for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category for the 2027 Academy Awards.
The submission marks an important moment for Sri Lankan Tamil cinema, bringing a locally produced Tamil film into the wider international awards conversation.
The involvement of Ilaiyaraaja, one of the most influential composers in Indian cinema, adds another notable dimension to the film’s journey. His music is expected to be one of the key aspects drawing international attention to the production.
While the Oscar submission marks the beginning of the selection process, the film will have to go through the Academy’s subsequent stages of consideration before the final nominees are announced.
For the Sri Lankan Tamil film industry, however, ‘Anthony’s’ journey towards the Oscars represents another opportunity to take its stories, talent and filmmaking to a wider international audience.
