‘Amaram’ to Tell the Story of the Marginalised: Director Arul Krishnan Says It Takes Courage to Bring Such a Story to the Screen
“It Takes a Lot of Courage to Make a Story Like This” – Director Arul Krishnan
Three different time periods, three distinct landscapes and an everlasting love story at their core — ‘Amaram’ is set to bring together romance, human emotions and the lives and struggles of people whose stories have often remained unheard.
Presented by Nirmala Rajan under the banner of Divya Kshetra Films and produced by C.R. Rajan, the film is written and directed by Arul Krishnan. Tejas Rajan plays the lead, while Aira Agarwal is the female lead. The cast also includes George, Sai Dheena, Nagineedu, Kalki Rajan, Harish Peradi and Vasudevan Murali in key roles.
With the film gearing up for its theatrical release on August 28, the music and trailer launch event was held recently in the presence of the cast and crew.

Producer C.R. Rajan: “I Decided to Produce the Film the Moment I Heard the Story”
Speaking at the event, producer C.R. Rajan said that while every filmmaker dreams of making a good film, it takes the collective effort and dedication of an entire team to turn that dream into reality.
He said the entire team of ‘Amaram’, including the director, music composer, cinematographer and editor, worked with tremendous commitment without putting money above the film.
“I decided to produce ‘Amaram’ the moment director Arul Krishnan narrated the story to me. I initially had plans to make a remake, but this story changed my decision. Everyone in my family also loved the story,” he said.
He also thanked Durai Pandian for taking complete responsibility for the film’s production when he was unable to be fully involved in the process for a period of time.
Praising the lead actors, C.R. Rajan added that Tejas Rajan and Aira Agarwal have delivered strong performances and urged audiences to watch the film in theatres and extend their support.

Tejas Rajan: “More Than 330 Actors Worked With Complete Dedication”
For Tejas Rajan, ‘Amaram’ is a particularly important film.
Talking about the shooting experience, the actor revealed that the team filmed for more than 40 days across challenging locations, including Kodaikanal at 4 a.m. and Ennore Beach.
“We shot this film for more than 40 days. We worked through difficult conditions, including during the storm, and filmed in various locations. More than 330 actors have worked on this film with complete dedication. I would like to thank every one of them,” he said.
Tejas Rajan also expressed his confidence in director Arul Krishnan and said he believes the film will emerge as a major success.

Director Arul Krishnan: “This Is a Story About the Lives of the Marginalised”
Director Arul Krishnan spoke extensively about his journey into cinema and the vision behind ‘Amaram’.
Having worked as an assistant to directors Gokul and Rajan Madhav, Krishnan said that filmmakers such as K.S. Ravikumar and Shankar inspired him to enter the industry.
He initially wanted to make a large-scale action film inspired by the kind of storytelling seen in films such as ‘KGF’. However, due to various challenges involved in mounting that project, he eventually moved away from that attempt.
He later narrated several stories through his managers, which eventually led to the creation of ‘Amaram’.
According to Krishnan, the film is an example of how a strong story and screenplay can create an impact even without relying on a major star.
“If the story and screenplay are strong enough, even a newcomer can deliver a successful film when given a role originally written for a leading actor. ‘Amaram’ is an attempt to prove that a grand film can be made with a controlled budget through proper planning,” he said.

The director also revealed that the film was conceived on a larger scale despite its limited investment, with detailed planning helping the team achieve its visual ambition.
He further shared that Trident Arts’ Ravindran described the film as having the potential to remind audiences of films such as ‘Pudhiya Paadhai’, ‘Subramaniapuram’ and ‘Paruthiveeran’, and expressed hope that ‘Amaram’ would eventually attain cult-classic status.
“This is a story about the lives of people who have been denied their place and voice. It takes a lot of courage to make a film like this. That courage came from the producer,” Arul Krishnan said.
Director Opens Up About Yogibabu’s Casting
Arul Krishnan also spoke about his attempt to bring actor Yogibabu on board.
He revealed that Yogibabu, who is a close friend and with whom he has worked since ‘Junga’, had agreed to be part of the film. However, the collaboration could not materialise due to budget constraints.
“There is absolutely no fault on Yogibabu’s part. That is simply how the current film industry works,” the director explained.
Aira Agarwal: “The Director’s Guidance Helped Me a Lot”
Aira Agarwal said that the music and trailer launch was a special moment for her after waiting for several months to see the film reach audiences.
She said she immediately connected with the story when director Arul Krishnan narrated it to her and trusted his ability to bring it to the screen.
“The director taught me how to approach my performance and guided me throughout. His direction helped me tremendously. Everyone from the editor and cinematographer to the music composer has contributed immensely to the film,” Aira Agarwal said.
She also thanked Tejas Rajan, producer C.R. Rajan and the entire team for their support.

A Film That Speaks About People, Their Pain and Their Rights
Special guest Dr. V. Ramaraj praised the team for creating a film that goes beyond conventional commercial cinema.
He said ‘Amaram’ appears to focus on people’s lives, their struggles, their pain and their fight for justice.
He also highlighted the need to create greater awareness about Lokayukta in Tamil Nadu and called for collective efforts against corruption.
Strong Technical Team Behind ‘Amaram’
The film features an accomplished technical crew. Renowned Telugu composer Mickey J. Meyer has composed the music, while R. Sreeramar, who has worked on Vetrimaaran’s ‘Vada Chennai’ and ‘Asuran’, is handling the editing.
Miracle Michael has choreographed the stunt sequences in a distinctive style, while Bharat Kumar has handled cinematography. Janardhanan is the art director and Boopathy has choreographed the songs.
